Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing in response to an announcement posted on the Happy Kids Hospital employment
opportunities website for the Pediatric RN Residency program. As you can see from my resume, I will
graduate in December, 2014 from the University of South Florida, College of Nursing. I recently
completed my senior practicum in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at All Childrens Hospital, and I am
confident that my experience working with a high acuity, diverse patient population has helped further
my development as a new nurse.
During my time in clinical rotations, I have had the opportunity to work in several settings, including
medical-surgical, critical care, and emergency. These experiences have enabled me to develop a strong
skill set in critical thinking, planning, and the coordination of patient care. In addition to my nursing
skills, my past job experience as a Quality Improvement Coordinator has allowed me to work
collaboratively with physicians, pharmacists, administrative staff, and other health care professionals
which has proven invaluable in a multitude of clinical settings.
It would be a great honor and privilege to work for a hospital that is recognized as one of the top 50
childrens hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. This recognition shows the hospitals commitment to
providing safe, evidence based practice, and the value of providing patient and family centered care. I
desire to be part of this residency program because it will provide extensive training, mentoring, and
continued support that will help strengthen my clinical decision making skills in order to provide safe,
high quality patient care. My time in the NICU has confirmed that pediatric nursing, with neonates
specifically, is where my true passion lives. Pediatric nursing does not only provide a challenging career,
but allows the nurse the unique opportunity to restore hope, strength, and health back to the youth of our
generation. I affirm that I not only share the values of Happy Kids Hospital, but that I can be a valuable
team member that possesses all of the necessary skills to succeed as a professional nurse.
I am very interested in beginning my career with Happy Kids Hospital and believe that my skills and
