Portfolio Reflection
This semester in the Education 1010 class I have learned so much about the teaching
profession I did not know prior to taking this class. Obviously everyone knows the basic about
teaching and about what a teacher is expected to do and accomplish during school year, but
this course has taught me the in depth concepts and just general things teachers are expected
to do and know. As you can imagine with any career choice there are skills, degrees, and
licensure you have to acquire to be able to go into that profession teaching is just like that. In
this class this semester we have gone into depth of the different teaching skills, the different
licensure prospective, and even in depth on what type of things you are required to do in the
teaching profession along with many more specific topics I will be covering in this essay.
The significance of field work is very beneficial and is something that you need in order
to become a professional teacher. Field work is defined as work done firsthand through
observations in the work field of your desired degree. This is meaning that you will do
observation hours and assisting in classrooms to help you get an idea of what you will be
dealing with in your classroom one day.
Licensure is a topic we covered quite a bit in this class. Licensure is defined in our
textbook as The process by which a state evaluates the credentials of prospective teachers to
ensure that they have achieved satisfactory levels of teaching competence and are morally fit
to work with youth also stated in the text book Every state has licensure requirements, which
typically include a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum

number of credit hours in specified areas, such as those required for a teaching major or
minor. There is a process in which you have to go through to achieve licensure and different
states require different things for their licensure which I think makes this such an opinionated
topic. Some belief that the states should require the same test and same requirements as all
the other states, they believe that this will make the system more fair and make sure all the
state our on the same page.
Something I noticed while doing my field experience is something that we have talked
about this semester is the Classroom management and assessment in the classroom. My
philosophy on classroom management is that it develops a well-balanced classroom and lets
the administrators, students, and even a public at large know that we as teachers are in charge
and know what were doing in the classroom. In the particular classroom I was in the teacher
was very good at keeping the classroom managed and letting the students know she was on top
of things. Another thing that I noticed with field experience is how different teachers in the
career field asses their students work in the classroom. I think with field experiences you can
see what techniques work best for this assessment process and maybe what approaches not to
take in the classroom. I think that the field experiences you will have are beneficial to you in
many ways but with just these two areas alone you will find ways you want to go about these in
your classroom.
I was unfortunately unable to do my teaching demonstration in the actual classroom
and I did it so early in the semester that I think if I did one now it would be even better. When I
did my teaching demonstration I realized that there are definitely some things I need to work

on and that by watching in the field experience I learned a lot on what I should be doing
differently for example trying to make my sentences flow more naturally and not turning my
back to the class and as simple as it sound not writing on the board crooked. I think if I were to
do my video demonstration now that I would do a much better job on it. In my field experience
hours I think I was able to open up and really go out of my comfort zone which was cool
because I feel like I am comfortable with just about everything, but this experience helped me
realize that I need to be open to everyone and their ideas and ways of learning even if its not
the particular way I would go about it.
In conclusion, I feel like this class what very beneficial to me and helped me really figure
out what I want to do and what grades I am leaning toward teaching in the Education degree. I
also feel that this class and the required experience hours were very beneficial to helping me
grow as a future teacher and realize what techniques and teaching skills I will apply to my
classroom one day.

Chapter 8
Emotional and behavioral disorders are very difficult to deal with at times but, can
definitely be manageable with lots of hard work. When placing these students in classrooms
you have to be especially careful of where you put them to make sure t is a perfect fit. There
are a lot of things that play into to the decision making process of this issue. There are
externalizing behaviors and internalizing behaviors that can cause this process to be more
difficult to detect and manage placing them in the right classroom setting.

There are many different forms of behaviors, such as externalizing behavior and
internalizing behavior. The different between the two I important but also realize that they can
relate to each other hand in hand. Externalizing behavior is the outward more obvious one. For
example this is the behavior such as acting out in class. The externalizing behavior is easier to

detect and usually easier to control because it is so prominent. Internalizing behavior are the
ones that are hard to detect because they are within the student not seen or outward like
externalizing behavior. An example would be a confidence battle eating disorders and
emotional things inside.
The best way to make sure that you are placing them in the right classroom and right
educational setting it to make sure that they fall under the standards. When placing the
children in the classroom make sure you think of their needs but also if they will do well in the
classroom with the other children. Making sure that they work well with everyone is in the best
interest for everyone.
In conclusion kids with behavioral issues inner or outer need support and need to feel
loved. Most cases the child is acting out or acting by example from what they see at home. Also
when placing children in the classroom setting you need to be specific and cautious with where
you decide to place them. Teacher play a huge part in this process and need to take it seriously.
