Hearing impairments and

deafness are things we may come
across in our everyday lives whether it
is at school, work, or just out and
about. Many of us may not know
much about these disabilities so here
are some websites about hearing
impairments and deafness that might
help us better understand how to tell if
a child has one of the disabilities, what
to expect, and just some general
information about them.

COMPARISON
Textbook VS Internet search
The majority of the information found
between the textbook and internet findings were
similar. Although the internet provided more
causes, they both had the main causes as being,
hereditary, meningitis, middle ear infections and
noises. Not only were the causes the same, but the
solutions were as well, for example, newborn
hearing screenings, hearing aids, cochlear
implants, etc. There were three types of hearing
loss found and specified in both the textbook and
on the internet; conductive, sensorineural and
mixed.
The findings on the internet were more
current than the textbook so I feel they challenged
the text a bit more. The main thing I couldnt seem
to find in the textbook that I could on the internet
was percentages of overall children with hearing
impairments.

website is current. There is a review date of
August, 2014. In addition I was able to utilize all of
the sites links.
Relevance - The information contained on this
website is appropriate for my needs and
understanding. It was suited for an adult audience.
In addition, I found the information I was looking
for. Other sources I found were not very credible.
Authority -The sites writer, Michelle Badash, has
a masters degree in heath communication and has
over 15 years of health and medical writing
experience.
Accuracy - This author is credible. In addition,
there are references provided throughout the site.
There are no grammatical errors, and the language
is unbiased.
Purpose The intent of this site is to inform about
the disability in many ways. The information given
is fact based therefore there is no biases and it can
neither be objective or impartial because it is not
ones point of view.

available.

references provided throughout the site. There are

unbiased.
