SCOPE & SEQUENCE INFORMATION

1. The Scope & Sequence is based upon the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), which are state standards for what students should
know and be able to do.
2. The curriculum is based upon the P.E. Instructor meeting 5 days a week with students for a minimum of 30 minutes and maximum of 40
minutes with students at a session. When providing instruction five times per week, the Scope and Sequence allows the Teacher to offer
additional time to reinforce skills and activities within all core curriculum areas.
3. As a part of every class meeting, health related fitness (development, concepts, awareness and terminology) should be taught throughout the
school year. This can be done through warm-ups (jogging, rope skipping, active games, stretching exercises and strengthening) and cool
downs (stretching and relaxation). More physical fitness components should be added throughout the unit activities appropriately and
progressively.
4. Curricular areas are appropriate for teaching students in a traditional, inclusive, and/or adaptive setting. The curriculum may have to be
modified depending upon the individual students IEP goals and objectives.
5. The Scope and Sequence includes activities geared towards the FitnessGram mandated test so they will be healthy and active individuals.
6. The Scope and Sequence always includes Sports and activities that they will have never been exposed to prior before; therefore they
will have an overall appreciation for Physical Education and create an awareness of their quality of life.
7. The Scope and Sequence is broken down by developmental beginners activities and progresses to more collaborative challenging activities
towards the end of the school year.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. SAFETY of the student is paramount and needs to be reinforced at all levels, especially the appropriate use of mats, safety lines, age
appropriate choice of games, warming up and cooling down.
2. All staff and administration will be given a newsletter and handout of the the P.E program so they can refer to it in their regular classrooms
or incorporate what we are learning into their own. They will be aware of our students goal to achieve an active lifestyle.

Heidi Kuykendall
3. Students are required to participate in p.e activities unless otherwise noted from a doctor, physician, or counselor report.
