Lesson Plan:

Introduction (Anticipatory Set/Motivation):

Present Lions
1. -The teacher will explain to students that they are going to learn
about Lions.
-The teacher will show students a video clip of a lion roaring.
-The teacher will give students a chance to say something they
know about Lions or something they noticed in the video.
Process:
Lion March
2. -The teacher will give students clear boundaries for where their
cage is and what the rules are for acting like a lion.
-The teacher will have the students move to the beat around the
room like lions to Saint Saens Carnival of the Animals.
-The teacher will identify when the lion is roaring based on the
music and have the students roar when they hear it in the music.
Little Mice Go Creeping

3. - The teacher will explain that they are going to move around

like little mice and like an old gray cat.

-The teacher will explain to students that cats and lions are both
felines.
-The students will compare and contrast cats and lions.
-The teacher will give students boundaries again.

Move to the Beat (Jingle Bell Rock)
5. -The teacher will pre-teach the movements to Jingle Bell Rock.
-The teacher will have the students pretend to play imaginary
jingle bells and put them on the floor next to them.

-The students will follow the

movements of the teacher on
the steady beat and play
pretend jingle bells on the
steady beat.

Accommodations:
1.

Assign SPED students with a strong

partner during singing games and move to
the beat exercises.

2. Make boundaries and expectations

really clear when the students are
preparing to move like a lion or a cat
around the room. Use visual cues
instead of just telling them.

Technology Implementation:

1. I will use a YouTube video on the

projector screen to present lions to the
students.
2. I will provide recordings on an Ipod
for Saint Saens Carnival of the Animals,
Tchaikovskys Dance of the Sugar Plum
Fairy and Jingle Bell Rock.

Assessment/Evaluation:
1.

I will assess student

behavior while watching
the video clip. I will
assess students
respecting personal
space during March of
the Lions.
2. I will assess students
ability to stay on the
beat during move to the
beat exercises by
observing.
3. I will assess student
ability to perform
specific movements to
the beat.
4. I will give students
constant feedback
during activity to modify
behavior and ability to
stay on the beat.
