    DOUGLAS MURRAY MCGREGOR

    BACKGROUND
    Douglas Murray McGregor (1906-1964) was a management theorist and educator. During his
    lifetime, he taught physiology and industrial management. McGregor enjoyed a mostly academic
    career lecturing at Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Antioch
    College. While at Antioch he served as its president. He was also the first Sloan Fellows Professor at
    MIT.
    CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARDS PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
    In his book The Human Side of Enterprise, McGregor identify measures to create an environment
    where employees are motivated via authoritative, direction and control or integration and selfcontrol, the so-called theory X and theory Y
