Apparently, there was not so much willing in participating in our tutorials, since
only one student showed up from the major of history. This was a pity because some
activities did not work well as they were expected. But leaving all those issues aside, I
would say that my first tutorial went very well. The student that I taught is called
Magdalena, and she participated actively in the lesson. I spoke in English almost the
whole class. Of course there were some aspects Madge did not get, but she used body
language to ask questions whenever she did not get something.
(While and) After teaching Magdalena, I strongly believe that there is a lack of
emphasis on pronunciation when it comes to learn English in her regular lessons. She
was very aware of the grammatical rules of all the tenses; for example, she knows
when she had to add an -s however, when she was asked to pronounce the word,
she uttered it without the s added. Moreover, she had difficulties with words such
as /ut/ /, just to name but two. On the other hand, she told me that her
weaknesses could be found in listening. She is not being provided with enough input
as Krashen suggests in one of his theories.
Being a teacher means a lot of commitment to do all the lessons. It implies
being an innovator and plucking up the courage to break the paradigm got in terms of
education. Being a teacher means to be patient not only with your students themselves
but also with the wait for their learning outcomes. It is a really hard work too, for
sometimes students might not find interesting English as well as you, so engaging
them in learning a foreign language, as it is English, it is really hard. You need to be
creative and use all the resources you can in order to catch their attention.
I think that being aware already of the complexity of being a teacher is going to
make my work may be not easier but a lot less stressful. Its really important to have
fun, to know your students, believe in them, make them feel important, so they feel
you care about them I dont know see another way to make this less tedious and
more successful.
CCQs, classroom management, instructions, and use of whiteboard
I consider there were no problems with classroom management, since Madgalena was
the only one there; therefore, she could not interact with any classmate, but us. In
fact, we Magda, Claudia and I worked in a very small circle during most of the
activities. She was very committed, willing and focused on learning.
I believe that I did not have problems with instructions, because even though
Madgalenas level of proficiency is elementary, I used body language, I modeled them
and she could accomplish the activities and tasks afterwards. I do not consider that the
tasks were too complex. On the contrary, they were fun and made to her level, so that
she could achieve them.
The whiteboard was a very important resource to carry out my lesson. I used it during
the practice stage. I made use of it as well as Magdalena. When I asked her to come in
the front, she was very confident and wrote about what she liked doing in her free
time and even she came up with a statement about me, which provoke a lot of
laughter, because I told her shes was wrong since I dont eat chocolate every day.

I cannot remember whether I asked CCQs or not. Next time, I will be more aware of
that.
Things to improve:
For my second lesson I would like to improve to be more conscious about asking
proper CCQs. They were in my lesson plan, but I did not give the necessary
importance and I completely forgot about them.
I believe that the activities in the practice and production and even in the warm
upstage were very useful and appropriate; however, for my next lesson I think I
should give a more engaging presentation or introduction to the topic.
I feel that if I make those changes, English will be more meaningful for
Magdalena and she will be even more engaged and willing to participate not only in
our tutorials, but also in her regular English lessons.
