What would you do if one day, you were woken up by
the brightness of a white light and the coldness of a steel
table, doctors in white suits all around your half naked body, examining and poking you with cold silver objects. You look for your parents but theyre in another room behind a glass window crying. Then it clicks, you talked to your parents the night before, you told them you were a homosexual and they didnt accept it. Now they think you have a disease or some sort of sickness in your brain and are trying to get you back to normal.
Homosexuality is normal, whether some accept it or not,
it is just like being born left or right handed, you have no choice, nor anything in your brain that can prove it. Which then makes religious activists think that they have the upper hand in this controversial problem. Although there is no scientific proof, Rahman and Wilson mention fraternal birth order, meaning that homosexual men are found to have a greater number of older brothers than heterosexual men do (Rahman, Q., & Wilson, G. 2002). This is stating that the more older brothers a male individual has, the greater chance he has of being born gay, as depicted in the picture to the right.
Scientists have came up
with many theories other than this one, some for example being genetic and twin studies, meaning that there could be a gay gene that may go around the family and can affect each generation. More importantly, according to Osmundson, studies on both gay men and women have shown that the men have brain responses more like straight females and vise versa for the gay women (Osmundson J. 2010). There isnt exact brain differences between homo or heterosexuals that you can physically see without a machine scanning its waves, and I like it like that, I feel like thats how it should be and its
proof that being born gay is something natural and shouldnt
be discriminized against. Discrimination on an individuals sexual orientation is unjust; being born gay is completely natural, nothing is wrong with it nor does it make that person a genetic mutation of some sort. We all have our differences, each in our own way; we need to stop judging each other simply on the basis of our sexual preferences. Everybody is unique in there own way, and just because they are different doesnt mean they should be treated differently. Most importantly, does it really matter if being born gay is natural or not? This controversial topic has been around for a while and we need to put an end to it, because at the end of the day, were all human beings and were all the same on the inside.
