Writing 1101
Professor Campbell

Dear Professor Campbell or whoever is reading,

It is the end of the first semester of my freshmen year of college and also the end of my
writing class. This is great but also a bummer because I actually enjoyed my writing class, which
rarely happens. Im getting beside the point, Im writing this letter as a reflection to show how I
have evolved in writing, whether it be my feelings towards it or actual work. Ive had around
four major assignments, blog posts, Daybook reflections, research and many other things this
semester. I must admit I did not start off on the right foot as I should have done and Ill probably
pay for it in the long run. Where should I start off on, well I guess Ill talk about my free
response experiences. I honestly enjoyed writing in my Daybook and the cool thing about free
response is that you can write anything that comes to mind about a particular topic. This
personally makes my life easier because I could one day be talking about genres and the next day
talk about how I dislike someone.
Writing blogs wasnt a hard process, it was actually pretty easy since I could speak my
mind in a casual manner. I might just continue maintaining the blog after this class. My favorite
blog post I say would be Why I Hate School But Love Education blog post. In my opinion I
enjoyed it because it brought to my attention how students go to school to gain a grade and its

not really about enjoying what you learn anymore. It opened my eyes to the idea that you can be
successful without school and school doesnt determine your future. People can gain knowledge
outside of school and can become wise from others. When first creating my blog I actually
struggled with the website I used which was Tumblr but I eventually worked the kinks out. For
example the website wouldnt upload my posts and I sometimes still have problems with that.
My worst experience however is when it deleted about two posts.
Having to do research was actually one of the easiest things to do in the class. For
example I had to do research on video game players for my Mini-ethnography which was on a
video game club. Using my lap top made searching pretty easy. The Mini-ethnography was the
most enjoyable assignment I had because not only did I study people who played awesome
games but I actually became immersed in another communitytalking to them, understanding
how they felt about certain topics like society, and making friendsit also gave a nostalgic
feeling because I used to play some of those games. Even though that was the most enjoyable
essay the easiest one was the Literacy Narrative. How I went about writing it was I recorded
myself talking about my experiences from my past pertaining to reading and writing. Afterwards
I played the recording back and wrote everything I said. How easy this assignment was not what
I took from it but the fact it actually made me think about my past.
The most difficult assignment would be the Genre Analysis. I say this because I took so
long to turn it I, at first it was late because I wanted to perfect it but its hard to keep up after you
get behind. Thats why the assignment was difficult not because it was hard but because of how
hard I made it on myself. The ePortfolio was the most important assignment because not only is
it the final grade but looking at my website Im revisiting all these assignments I did and
remember how I went about completing them. I can actually see the difference from my first

assignment to my last one. Most noticeably you can see it if you read my Genre Analysis paper
then read the Mini-ethnography.
I think my biggest weakness when first starting the class was trying not to write a paper
so formally, I couldnt put myself into the paper if that makes sense. My biggest strength
however in my opinion was being able to think in depth about what I was going to write. During
the semester I think I was able to not sound monotone but instead make the essay sound more
like a conversational piece. I think my time management skills is actually something I need to
work on in the future. As far as being a thinker I never really struggled with besides thinking
about how to put my Genre Analysis paper together. Asking questions was pretty easy because I
never had a hard time asking questions when I wanted to know something. Overall with being a
write Ive overcome writers block because Ive learned how to make my writing an intelligent
conversation instead of a boring paper. Ill take learning how to put my words into writing and
meeting deadlines better from this class, also asking my peers for help if need be.
