Leadership Platform Paper

Abstract
I have collected data on the school district that influences my personal leadership goals. I will
include Manchester Local Schools profile that describes the current student, community and
faculty demographics. I will explain the schools districts current mission and vision for the
students. This paper also explores my personal leadership philosophy and my vision of
leadership for Manchester Local Schools. Through this paper I will include three of my personal
leadership goals for Manchester Local Schools. These goals are specific statements of intent and
indicate the ideal direction toward which Manchester Local Schools ideally are moving towards.

Creating a Leadership Platform Paper is a great opportunity to help me do some deepthinking into my own educational philosophy of leadership and the goals I would like to
implement throughout my professional career at Manchester Local Schools. I believe that
educators often get comfortable in their position in education. We do not take the time to
consider the factors of how we can get better at our profession. There is too much to consider,
contemplate and worry about in an educational career, but reflections are important benefit to
creating a better learning environment for students. What is most important is that teaching is
visible to the student and that learning is visible to the teacher. The more the student becomes the
teacher and the more the teacher becomes the learner then the more successful the outcomes
(Hargreaves, A., & Fullan, M., p. 53).
Manchester Local Schools Profile
The current profile of Manchester Local Schools is a middle class, Christian, and the
majority is Caucasian. The Manchester Local School District is located near Akron, OH, in
southern Summit County, and serves approximately 1,500 students in grades K-12. The district
is comprised of 3 buildings: Nolley Elementary (K-4), Manchester Middle School (5-8) and
Manchester High School (9-12). The district is routinely rated Excellent by the Ohio
Department of Education. Nolley Elementary has been rated Excellent 6 of the last 7 years,
Manchester Middle School for 5 straight years, and Manchester High School for 10 consecutive
years. The language of the student body and faculty population is English. There is a very low
diversity within the school district. The parents of the student body support the small district, but
levies are passed by small margins.

Personal Philosophy of Leadership

A leader must earn the respect of his/her colleagues based on their values, beliefs, and actions for
the future of the school district. Leadership is based on the influence, delegation, collaboration,
and implementing a democratic work environment for all employees. In Professional Capital,
the authors Hargreaves and Fullan states, that a leader should create opportunities to increase
purposeful peer interaction, help establish and consolidate new norms of teachers working
together, and build respect for each other, (2012).
Manchesters Mission and Vision for Students

Manchester Local Schools believes that the purpose of education is to develop potential of each
student. Every individual in a free society has both the responsibility and the right to make
decisions and choices for themselves for society. A member of society has responsibilities to use
rational thought to process and to make intelligent, ethical choices and decisions. Young students
need to be prepared to exercise their responsibilities and rights in ways that benefit them and the
society. If students are able to achieve their life goals in society, they need to be competent to
make decisions to choose alternatives that are and continue to be available to them. The school
program should reflect expectations and opportunities to attain personal goals in society.
