Mr.

Padillas Classroom Management Plan

Rationale:
I believe that classroom management is essential to establishing a productive learning environment for
my students. It will be my top priority to ensure that students who walk into my classroom feel safe. I
believe that I need to be reflective and make changes that best fit my classroom. According to Glasser
(2001) a reflective teacher should have 7 connecting habits: caring, listening, supporting, contributing,
encouraging, trusting, and befriending. I will use these habits to form a safe and open environment for
my class.
Target Group:
This classroom management plan is intended for a 3rd classroom
Classroom Rules:
I believe that rules are created to allow a classroom to function efficiently. When rules are established
students feel safe and have a sense that this class is their home away from home. Rules will allow
optimal learning to occur. The key to establishing rules is to always keep them positive. We will create
a social contract for our classroom at the beginning of the school year. The students and I will have a
discussion on how they want to be treated and how they feel I would want to be treated. I will help
guide them to have rules like be respectful, be honest, follow directions, follow the Golden Rule, keep
hands to yourself.
I will implement a red, yellow and green light behavior support system. All students will start on green
at the beginning of the day. If a student doesnt follow the rules he/she will get one warning before
moving down to yellow. When I give them the warning I will say, What are you doing? What should
you be doing? What are you going to do about it? This is your warning next time you will move your
card.
If a student is on red at the end of the day, we will have a discussion on reason for their behavior. The
students will lose one recess and I will call the parents. If they are on yellow they will have to make note
of it on their daily agenda and weekly newsletter that goes home to their parents. The parents are
expected to sign the daily agendas each night.

Classroom Environment:
I believe that the classroom environment should change depending on the instruction and activity for
that day. The desks will be put into 3 groups of groups of 4 and 2 groups of 5. We have math teams
every morning and these are the groups they will be working with. There will be to conference tables in
the back for doing testing or interventions. In the back of the class there will be a couch and rug where
we will have tribal times, and reading workshops. I will have a classroom library that will have a

selection of many different topics and genres. The books will also be placed in baskets that consist of
the same DRA level. I will have student projects displayed throughout the classroom. There will be a
table in the front that will have the materials for the day on it, a document camera, and a wire shelf that
has copies of other materials that were used in previous lessons that week.

Classroom Procedures:
There are many procedures that are needed to make a classroom run efficiently. I will take the first
couple of weeks of class to specifically work on each of these procedures. When the class doesnt
follow the procedure correctly the students will go back to where they started and try the procedure
again. Procedures that I will implement in my class are: lining up to go to and from class, sharpening
your pencil, getting the class quiet, packing up, station work, morning routine (attendance, calendar,
and lunch count), and getting ready for independent reading .

Motivational Strategies:
I believe that if I build a strong relationship with my students they will be motivated to do the work I ask
of them. Students will want to do their best and make me proud if we have a strong relationship. I
believe that students, who appreciate being in my class and feel like they have choices, will be more
accepting to what I ask. For example, when I create certain lessons I will give students choices on
projects they would like to accomplish. These projects will be designed to appeal to different types of
learners. For example the students could create a poster, research paper, skit, music, or a web page,
etc. to demonstrate understanding.

Problem Behavior:
Problem behavior will occur in every classroom. I believe that the way to solve this problem is to create
a behavioral modification plan. If there is a consistent pattern of misbehavior, I will document what
happened, how long the problem behavior lasted, and how severe the acting out was. If there becomes
a history of behavior problems I will initiate a meeting with parents. Other steps that I would try to
implement are having that student sit close to my desk, learn what the student enjoys doing and try to
implement that into a lesson, use collaborative groups, proximity control, use of my body language, and
have classroom meeting. If there is still a reoccurring problem I would contact the parents to come up
with a star and check chart. During 5 different times throughout the day the student will either receive
a star if they have been on task or a check if they were not. If they receive 4 out of 5 stars during that
day they will receive a proud paw. If they do not receive 4 out of 5 stars they will lose their outside
recess.

Assessment:
I will implement using both formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments will consist
of worksheets, journals, quizzes, observations in class and in small groups. My summative assessments
will consist of tests, and projects. For projects I will use rubrics so the students will know what their
grade is based on. Through these assessments, students will demonstrate their understanding the
material. I will use the assessments to modify lessons to ensure that my students have a more complete
understanding of the material.

Accommodations:
Accommodations to my classroom or lessons will be done when there is a student that is struggling with
comprehending the material. I will work with special education teacher to assist with any
accommodations that might help that particular student. For example I might include more visuals in
lessons, give the student alternative assessments, or give a student extra time to work on projects and
summative assessments.
