American Football and Soccer
Millions of fans follow two ball sports. American Football and Soccer are two of the
most popular sports. Both American Football and Soccer appeared in the 19th century. American
Football is played in four quarters of 15 minutes each, with a half time break after the second
quarter. One Soccer game is 90 minutes, 45 minutes for each half of the game and there is added
time to make up for time elapse. Each is played in a rectangular field and has strict rules. There
are a lot of similarities between American Football and Soccer; both have eleven players, a
playmaker, offside and scoring rules.
American football is a good sport to practice and it is also a great sport to watch. The
team is composed of eleven players and all of them wear the same uniform. Football fields have
marks every 10 yards. The lineup for American Football is usually the defense and the offense.
The role of the defense is to prevent the offense from scoring touchdowns and the role of the
offense is to score as much touchdowns as they can. In American Football, the team always has a
quarterback, who is the leader of the offense. Either he or the coach calls the plays. Quarterbacks
typically inform the rest of the offense of the play to huddle before the team lines up. The
quarterback lines up behind the center to take the ball and then throw it or run with it. In football
each time a player scores is called a touchdown and that team is given 6 points and an extra point
to try to make 7 but is not easy scoring because this sport has strict rules.

One of the rules is applied when a player is offside. When a player is on the wrong side
of a single play from the snap of the ball until the ball is dead an offside occur and it is a foul.
The team gets a free kick and tries to score. If the defender jumps across the line but gets back to
his side before the snap there is no foul. Scoring in football requires the ball to break the plane of
the end zone for a six point touchdown or two point conversions. The ball must go through the
goal post up rights for a kick to count as an extra point or three points field goal. American
Football has a lot of fans in the United States and Canada. American Football and Soccer are
dominant all over the world.
Soccer is played worldwide and has fans everywhere. Soccer fields are marked out with a
kick off line circle, a midfield line and two penalty areas. The team has a squad of eleven players
and they wear similar uniform. The lineup for a soccer team is typically the goal keeper, four
defenses, four midfielders and two offenses. Soccer teams are seen as a whole. The defensive
part and offensive part of the soccer game depends on who has the ball. As many midfielders
play defense when the opposite team has the ball and many midfielders help the offense when
their team has the ball. One of the midfielders is also the playmaker because the team always has
a playmaker
The playmaker is the player that controls the flow of the teams offensive play. He or she
is often involved in passing moves which lead to goals. The attacking midfielder usually wears
the jersey number 10. Several playmakers operate in more central midfield role. They play in a
more offensive role and participate in the buildup plays in the midfield. The midfielders and the
offense have to be aware of the offside. In soccer, offside occurs when the attacking player is in
the opponents half of the field and the attacking player goes behind the line of defenders before
the ball has been kick to them. If the offside occurs, the referee calls a foul and the ball is given

to the opponent team and they get a free kick. The players have to be careful not to be offside
because if they score it can be valid. In soccer, the ball must fully cross the goal line between the
goal up rights and under the cross bar to count as a goal. Soccer scoring is worth only one point
and it is called a goal.
In conclusion American Football and Soccer have similarities. The major league in
American football is the National Football League (NFL). The super bowl is a much watched
event. Likewise Soccer has a lot of major leagues and gives a lot of opportunities to new soccer
players, for example the Barclays Premiere League (BPL) and the Major League Soccer in the
USA (MLS). Many people are fans of international soccer tournaments such as the World Cup
and the Champions League. The World Cup takes place every four years and it is the biggest
event in the world of soccer and has the most fans. American Football and Soccer are a big
advantage in our society because they are played everywhere by kids, teenagers, and adults.
These two sports keep a lot of people all over the world out of trouble such as drugs and obesity.
Any sport is good as far as we practice it and really enjoy it.
