1. Introduction
The SGTravelgasm blog revamp project commenced on 20 November 2013, with a
meeting held between the involved Republic Polytechnic (RP) students and facilitators, and
the TTG representatives.
Since then, this team has spent the month of December brainstorming on ideas for the
blogs revamp in terms of design, content and outreach. These ideas will be explained in
detail within the rest of this proposal.
We hope that you will take the featured ideas in this proposal up for serious consideration in
the revamp of the blog.

2. Aesthetics
2a. Colour
For the blogs overall colour scheme, we propose to use a red-and-white combination. In
doing so, we feel that visitors to the blog will not have to strain their eyes in viewing the
content as a result of poor colour contrast with the black font.
In addition to that, using the red-and-white colour scheme on the blog will reflect TTGs
corporate colours, hence making the connection between it and the company more
transparent.
The red-and-white colour combination will also reflect Singapores national colours, hence
creating the blogs identity as a truly Singaporean one.
2b. Font
For the blogs font, we propose to use Cambria, size 11. In doing so, we feel this font type
and size will prevent our readers from experiencing irritated vision when reading our
published content. It is simple and not too small to read.
However, it must be noted that this font type and size should be used across all pages
(except for title). This is to ensure consistency so that readers do not get disoriented with
what they see when viewing the blog.
2c. Tabs
In ensuring that the blog is presented in an organised fashion, we propose the use of tabs to
categorise the various types of content.
The tabs could be named, Home, Food, Travel, Culture, Accommodation and
Lifestyle.
This way, visitors to the blog will be able to find what they want to read about immediately
upon arrival on the landing page without having to look all over the place that would result in
a frustrating experience for the visitors.

3. Content
Food
Monthly new cafes and restaurants
Rationale:
To provide readers with an idea of where to find the latest cafes and restaurants based on
the trend of youth wanting to know where the most hip places are for hanging out
Potential place to mention: Magnum Caf at Raffles City, 1st Cat cafe (in Singapore) at Boat
Quay
Affordable places to eat at Orchard Road
Rationale:
To inform readers where to find places that offer cheap, delicious food in Orchard Road, a
popular shopping district where the common perception is food being expensive there
Potential place to mention: Food stalls at Far East Plaza, 4th floor
Planned itineraries
Rationale:
To provide readers with planned routes of where to go to do different things at different times
of the day
E.g.
Morning people! Lets go to the Zoo but before that, have a breakfast fit for a king at Ang Mo
Kio Food Centre.
Its high noon. Lets have lunch with Ah Meng!
Night falls Lets board 927 and take dinner at Lot One
Shopping Centre before enjoying some retail therapy!

Travel
Affordable means of transport;
MRT
Rationale:
To provide readers with ideas on how to optimise the MRTs interconnected nature and on
places of interest located at various MRT stations
E.g. To get from the Woodlands Waterfront to the Kallang River, board the MRT at
Woodlands and transfer to the Circle Line at Bishan to go to Stadium. It takes less time than
taking the MRT from Woodlands to City Hall, and then to Kallang!
MRT is a faster way of travelling in Singapore as compared to the bus as the bus usually
takes a longer route.
Bus
Rationale:
To provide readers with ideas on the reasons to take a bus out of the airport, instead of the
MRT
E.g. Enjoy a relaxed, scenic route along the East Coast Park on Bus 36 after your long flight!
You get to see more on the bus than on the MRT! There is also a higher chance of getting a
seat on the bus as compared to the MRT!
Note:
We will hyperlink our blog to sites like (GoWhere) and (SBS) so the readers have more
information from those sites
Five apps in travelling around Singapore
Rationale:
To provide readers with the best apps which are free (Google Maps) to use while exploring
Singapore
This is to let our readers be self-sufficient and browse these apps for more information when
they visit Singapore.
Culture
Singlish Speaking like a true Singaporean
Rationale:
To tell readers about Singlish and how to respond accordingly when they encounter a
situation where they are spoken to in Singlish
Potential idea: Publish a Singlish dictionary under this sub-section that will help tourists
understand terms like wahlao or sian.
What NOT to do when in Singapore
Rationale:
To tell readers what not to do when in Singapore so that they do not offend anyone and get
into trouble
Potential idea: Publish a list of things that tourists should not do like, chewing gum, doing
drugs or stare at suspicious figures who could turn out to be gangsters out for blood

Accommodation
Top Five Hotels for Youth
Rationale:
To inform readers of the top hotels for youth visiting Singapore and highlight the USPs of
these hotels
Note:
Hyperlink to these top hotels pages
Top Five Backpacker Hostels
Rationale:
To advise readers on the top hostels for youth, their key features and which would be the
safest and cheapest ones for them to stay in.

Lifestyle
Shopping;
When to Shop in Singapore
Rationale:
To inform readers of when it would be a good time to come to Singapore to shop
E.g. Come down in June when the Great Singapore Sale is on, and enjoy discounted prices
on all sorts of things at all shopping centres!
Top Five Shopping Malls in Singapore
Rationale:
To tell readers about the most popular local shopping malls and their uniqueness on the
Singaporean scene
E.g. Publish a list that ranks the selected malls in terms of age so as to provide visitors with
some fun facts on the malls too
1. Plaza Singapura;
Opened in 1974, the mall remains a popular fixture on the Orchard Road shopping belt that
is always filled with people of all ages even to this day. Come down for great buys at various
youth dress outlets located in the basements of this mall and visit Spotlight Singapores
biggest art product retailer!
Unique Shopping Spots in Singapore
Rationale:
To provide an alternative to the popular shopping malls to readers who would be interested
to shop for unusual things in unique locations
E.g. Head down to Sungei Road for the Thieves Market and enjoy unbelievable deals on
the quirkiest items to hit Singapores shores!
Loosening Up;
Chill-Out Spots
Rationale:
To inform people of places to go for photo-taking and picnicking i.e. Henderson Waves,
Woodlands Waterfront and Benjamin Sheares
Bridge, etc.
E.g. For a pleasant picnic around traditional Chinese pagodas, take the MRT to Chinese
Garden and embrace the locales tranquil nature away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

4. Outreach
Facebook
We could place a Facebook widget on the blog and encourage visitors to the site to share
some of the postings on the blog with their friends on Facebook, hence creating increased
public awareness of the blog.
However, for this to work, there must be consistency in the quality of material posted on the
blog and the pictures used must be of great quality in order to attract people to come visit the
blog.
Twitter
Bearing the notion that most youth own a Twitter account, it is crucial we tap onto this social
media platform that allows users to share content from the blog onto their Twitter timelines.
In doing so, those followers interested in the sharing will visit the blog, hence increasing
public awareness once again.
Youtube
Videos from the blog can be shared on Youtube, hence putting the SGTravelgasm name
on that social media platforms radar. After all, there will be visitors more interested in seeing
than reading, and videos will facilitate that.

Note:
All three of the aforementioned social media platforms can be interlinked with one another,
and to the blog itself. This would enable the blog to gain as much audience awareness as
possible from all the right avenues that are relevant to todays youth.

5. Conclusion
In summation, we strongly believe that our proposed ideas will benefit the revamping of the
blog if implemented.
They have been developed through research on what people find most appealing in reading
blogs and on what the youth find most interesting to do or visit in Singapore.
Thank you for taking the time to read this proposal. We sincerely look forward to hearing
from you soon!
