Social Environment, 24(4), 417-421. doi:10.1080/10911359.2013.831288
This article is about nonverbal communication in humans. It goes over the different
characteristics of nonverbal communication and the meanings behind our gestures and facial
expressions. This article also helps decipher others body language and true feelings behind what
they say by looking at their nonverbal gestures. I plan on using this article as one of my main
sources for my research. This widely covers my topic and will greatly back my research. Other
articles that I found will be closely related to this article because this is precisely what my
research is all about.
DAgostino, T. A., & Bylund, C. L. (2014). Nonverbal Accommodation in Health Care
Communication. Health Communication, 29(6), 563-573. doi:10.1080/10410236.2013.783773
This is another great article but it is specific to the style of nonverbal communication
related in the healthcare field. Although the information pertains to the healthcare field, it is still
very useful to my research of nonverbal communication and its importance. This article has still
helped me immensely with my research on nonverbal communication. This article relates to my
first article because it is about nonverbal communication. It also sheds some light on body
language and gestures in the healthcare field.
Canary, D., & Cody, M. (2008). Interpersonal communication: A goals-based approach (4th
ed.). Boston: Bedford/St. Martin's.
This is the textbook I use for my Advanced Interpersonal Communication class. It vastly
covers all areas of communication and references to nonverbal communication throughout the
book while having an entire chapter on it. This book greatly helped me research my topic and
how it relates to other forms of communication and how it enhances the statements we make.
This book relates to my other articles closely because not only does it cover nonverbal
communication, but it also covers all areas of communication and how nonverbal is used during
those different interactions.
Bratani, M. (2007). Nonverbal Communication as a Factor in Linguistic and Cultural
Miscommunication. Fundamentals Of Verbal & Nonverbal Communication & The Biometric
Issue, 18(1), 82-91.

This book is about the different ways nonverbal communication can be conveyed in a
misleading way. Different styles of nonverbal communication can lead to miscommunication.
The source is very useful, because my other sources talk about how nonverbal communication
helps us convey our message. This source talks about the different ways nonverbal can be taken
the wrong way.
Nonverbal communication. (2014, September 25). Retrieved September 28, 2014, from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonverbal_communication
This specific article is very helpful in explaining nonverbal communication in a way that
is easily comprehensible. I mostly use this source to find other credible sources about nonverbal
communication. I dont really plan on using this source other than for reference purposes.
Cherry, K. (2014, January 1). What Are the Types of Nonverbal Communication? Retrieved
September 28, 2014, from
http://psychology.about.com/od/nonverbalcommunication/a/nonverbaltypes.htm
This article covers nonverbal communication in a broad sense. It does not go nearly as in
depth as the other articles, but it uses other ways to define terms that go along with nonverbal
communication. I plan on using this source to help me define nonverbal communication in other
ways that the other sources do not. This article also has other sources used as references
allowing me to find other articles helping me research nonverbal communication.
Body Language: Understanding Non-Verbal Communication. (n.d.). Retrieved November 24,
2014, from http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/Body_Language.htm
This article goes into great depth about nonverbal communication. It is very relevant to
my topic and is very useful. I couldnt find a date saying how current the article is but
comparing this article to my other sources, it seems up to date on its information. The purpose
of this article is to inform people about nonverbal communication and the different aspects
accompanying this term. Overall I would rate this article a 4 out of 5. This article has plenty of
useful information to use but its hard to establish credibility without having the author and date
posted.
Since this article covers nonverbal communication in great depth, I definitely plan on
using this article in my research. I plan on using several direct quotes from this article because I
really enjoy how they phrase things. This article has plenty of useful information on my topic
and I greatly enjoyed reading it.

Smith, J. (n.d.). 10 Nonverbal Cues That Convey Confidence At Work. Retrieved November 24,
2014, from http://www.forbes.com/sites/jacquelynsmith/2013/03/11/10-nonverbal-cues-thatconvey-confidence-at-work/
This article is a little off base from my original research topic, but it has some great
information about nonverbal cues. This article was published in 2013 so it is still very current.
The article comes from Forbes magazine so it definitely has some authority. At the same time
this article is biased because it speaks from a business perspective. I would rate this article a 3
out of 5 mostly because it is not entirely a credible source. This article does have several valid
points that will add to my research.
This article talks about nonverbal communication that conveys confidence. I only plan
on using this article when I talk about specific nonverbal cues. This article didnt have any
references for me to use. This article also only relates to my other sources in a minor sense
mostly for the fact that it only talks about nonverbal behaviors and cues in a very specific
context.
O'Hair, D., & Stewart, R. (2001). A speaker's guidebook: Text and reference. Boston:
Bedford/St. Martins.
This book is nearly perfect for the topic I am researching. This book was published in
2001 and has had several minor revisions added to it throughout the years so it is not entirely up
to date. Since this textbook is used to help teach a public speaking class, I would imagine that it
has plenty of credibility and authority in the nonverbal aspect. I would rate this article a 5 out of
5.
This book is from a public speaking class that I am a teachers assistant in. This book
also has a chapter on nonverbal communication and its importance in conveying a message
while speaking in front of an audience. I plan on using the book as reference to the body
language used when talking to a group of people. This book relates to my other sources because
it goes into great detail about body language and nonverbal gestures when sharing meaning.
Segal, J. (n.d.). Nonverbal Communication. Retrieved November 24, 2014, from
http://www.helpguide.org/articles/relationships/nonverbal-communication.htm
This article is very relevant to my topic because it talks about nonverbal communication.
The information presented is very accurate and has plenty of resources to back up their research.
I believe that the source is credible and the author appears to have some authority in the matter of
nonverbal communication. The purpose of this article is to inform its audience about nonverbal
communication. I would like to rate this article as a 4 out of 5 because I would like to find more
evidence stating that this is a credible source.

This source is about nonverbal communication and covers most aspects of body language
and different gestures. It has several charts listing gestures and the meaning they convey. I plan
on using this source to compare to the other sources that specifically talk about nonverbal
communication and the different meanings behind body language. This article talks about facial
expressions more in depth than my other sources so I will use this article as a my main source for
facial expressions and the meanings that they convey.
