51 years of the Doctor.
Image traveling though time at the speed of light. Traveling anywhere in the universe and
sometime out of it. To the beginning of time to the end of it. Running from living nightmare and
saving the day. Doctor Who is a show that all of that. Doctor Who have been on for 51 years.
The start.
Doctor Who first aired in the 1963. It was made by Sydney Newman. It started out as a
kid learning show. It was made to teach kids about history and how to trite people different from
you. It didnt just stay as a T.V show. It went on to being made in to comics, video games,
books, a movie, toys, spin-off of it, and a whole conventions call Who con by fans. (Haining)
Who is The Doctor?
The Doctor is a being not from our world. He is over 1000 year old and travel though
time in his magic blue box. He is a being known as a Time Lord. The Doctor is the name that he
pick for himself. The creature know as Daleks call him the Oncoming Storm. (Richards, 175)
He have two heart and can travel through time and space. He travel because he wanted to see the
universe. When traveling he find people and planets that need help and give them a helping hand.
A quote that say a lot about the doctor is said by a man Steven Moffat. Moffat is the person who
write for the show Doctor Who now. The quote go like this
When they made this particular hero, they didnt give him a gun, they gave him a
screwdriver to fix things. They didnt give him a tank or a warship or an x-wing fighter,
they gave him a call box from which you can call for help. And they didnt give him a
superpower or pointy ears or a heat ray, they gave him an extra heart. They gave him two

hearts. And thats an extraordinary thing; there will never come a time when we dont

Regeneration
Regeneration is a way for Time Lords to defeat death. When a Time Lord die of old age
or are hurt really badly they can regeneration and be as good as new. Really new, they get a new
face, new taste buds, and sometime a new gender. It dont always work. There are ways to kill a
Time Lord that make it impossible for them to regeneration. Time Lord only can regeneration
thirteen times. They do have a way to give someone more regeneration if they feel like it.
Who have been The Doctor?
Because of regeneration there have
been thirteen, at the least, people who
have played The Doctor or a form of him.
People refer to The Doctor by numbers.
The first person who was The Doctor was
William Hartnell. (Haining, 35) Standing
at five feet and eight pot five inches.
Showing up in the first episodes An Unearthly Child. The first Doctor was the oldest actor and
play the Doctor at his youngest. He enjoy saying Mm? Whats that, my boy? a lot. Dress in a
white dress shirt, black ribbon tie in a weird bow (it look like a wide moustache), a silvery
sometime tweedy waistcoat, a long dress coat accessorized with a pocket-watch on a chain, a bit
baggy tweedy pants, shiny elasticated boots, and his white hair gel back.( McAlpine) Hartnell
play The Doctor for three years before leaving. He was replace by the second Doctor in The
Tenth Planet. The second Doctor was play by a man name Patrick Troughton. (Haining, 42) The

second Doctor said When I say run, run. RUN! a lot. Standing at 5 feet and 7 inches and dress
in a blue shirt just a little too big with huge bend out of shape collars, a bow-ties, a too big
battered old dress jacket, big baggy plaid pants with suspenders, ankle boot that look like they
been through a lot, and black hair with a Beatle cut. (McAlpine) He enjoy playing his stripy
recorder and reading his 500-year diary. Troughton played The Doctor until the episode The War
Game where the Time Lord made him regeneration into the third Doctor. The third Doctor was
played by a man name Jon Pertwee. (Haining, 48) First seen in Spearhead from Space. He was
exiled to earth by the Time Lords and working with a group call U.N.I.T (Unified Intelligence
Taskforce) throughout Pertwee time as the Doctor. After him was the fourth Doctor who was
played by a man name Tom Baker. He enjoys saying the phrase Would you like a jelly baby?
His most outstanding trait was his long multicolored scarf. After Mr. Baker came the fifth doctor
who was played by a man named Peter Davison. Peters doctor wore a yellow cricket suit, a
game played in London. His doctor had the most companions traveling with him at one time.
After Mr. Davison was another Baker, this time it was Colin Baker taking on the role of the sixth
doctor. The sixth doctor is most notable for his clown like costume. Next came Sylvester McCoy
who played the seventh doctor, he was the shortest actor to play the doctor. Then was the eighth
doctor who was played by Paul McGann, he only got a movie. After McGann Doctor Who went
off the air for a while until it was returned to TV in 2005 with Christopher Eccelston as the ninth
doctor. He was only the doctor for a year, then the tenth doctor who is referred to as the fan
favorite of the internet, David Tennant took over. His first episode was the Parting of Ways. He
wears a blue suit but other times can be seen in a brown suit, always wearing red converse. He
was replaced by the eleventh doctor, Matt Smith, who thinks bow ties are cool. After Matt Smith
came the oldest doctor in the new who era Peter Capaldi, who plays the twelfth doctor. One form

of the doctor is known as the War Doctor, he fought in a battle called the Time War. The Time
War was fought between the Time Lords and the Daleks, a race of murderous machines. This
war was what destroyed the Time Lord race and home planet of Gallifrey.
What is the TARDIS?
TARDIS stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space. This is the Doctors space ship and
house and as the name says it can travel through time and space. During the first episode The
Unearthly Child the TARDIS chameleon circuit broke and it is now permanently stuck as a blue
police public call box from 1963 London, England.
Companions:
The doctor doesnt travel alone, he adventures with many different people and sometimes they
arent human. His very first companion was his granddaughter who went by the name Susan
Foreman. They stopped on Earth because she wanted to go to school. They met up with two
curious teachers, Barbara and Ian. The second doctors companions were taken away from him
by the Time Lords. They had their minds wiped and were sent home. Some of the newest
companions the doctor has had include a bisexual Captain Jack Harkness who cannot die and is
the leader of a group called Torchwood.
In conclusion Doctor Who is a show with great history and an in depth character base. The
doctor travels through time with many different friends to save all of time and space.
