In Grade one we are practicing our addition facts to ten. It is important that all
First graders know these.
1+9 = 10
9+1 =10
2+8=10
8+2=10

3+7=10
7+3= 10
4+6=10
6+4=10

5+5=10

Once First graders know the above then the next step is subtracting from 10.
10-1=9
10-9=1
10-2=8
10-8=2

10-3=7
10-7=3
10-4=6
10-6=4

10-5=5

Both of the above will help students develop automaticity with basic addition
and subtraction.
Double facts are another important concept we expect first graders to know. A
double fact is a number equation that repeats the same addend, such as 3+3= 6
or 8+8= 16. Children need to have instant recall for the following double facts:
1+1=2 2+2=4 3+3=6
6+6=12 7+7=14 8+8=16

4+4=8
9+9=18

5+5=10
10+10=20
