SLIDE (TRANSLATIONAL)

BLOCK SLIDE

A translational slide is a non-circular failure surface

which involves translational motion on a near-planar slip
surface.
The movement is largely controlled by surfaces of
weakness within the structure of the slope-forming
material: joint sufaces, bedding planes, faults, thrusts
and deposits, which display variations in shear strength,
as well as shear surfaces generated through the soil by
the failure.
