Clinical Week 2
Professionalism Reflection
Collaborative Practice
The concept of collaborative practice struck me this week, as I was able to observe
many different members of the health care team working together to care for
several different patients. Beyond working side by side with my RN in providing
care for my patient, I was also able to observe and to participate in communication
with the physician as he interacted with the primary nurse and the patient. Their
communication and respect for one another was imperative in lending the patient
the best care possible.
I also observed another patient, not my own, who was discharged and a member of
the OT team worked very closely with his family as he was learning to use a new
assistive device. Beyond this, the communication among the clinical assistants and
nurse aides with the RNs on the floor is something that is truly admirable. This
ability to work independently, yet cohesively as one unit, is what makes healthcare
work.
