Assessments

When writing a 100

word paragraph,
students will use
concise words to
describe details to
give voice to their
writing with 90%
accuracy.

Pre Assessment
(What do students
know about writing?
What do students
know about voice?
What do students
know about adding
voice to writing?)
During
Assessment(Teacher
Observation)
Post
Assessment(Student
journals will be taken
up at the end of the
lesson)

Format of
Formative
Assessments
Pre- Students are
asked to create a
list of three things
that they know
about writing and
adding voice to
writing.)
During-Teacher
observation to see
if students were
involved and
attending to the
story.
Post-Students are
asked to complete
a complete a 100
word essay in
their journals to
be taken up and
graded at the end
of the lesson.

Accommodations
Repeat and modify
instructions. A list
of three things I
know about each
topic will be on
the board so
students can use as
an example.
Throughout the
story, I will ask
various questions
to allow students
to think about how
the author used
voice to make the
story pop. I will
also provide an
example of adding
voice to writing. I
will also walk
around the room
and help students
who made need
help.

Describe

the pre-, during, and post-assessments that are aligned with

your lesson objective(s).
The pre-assessment that was used in this lesson was that the students must give one example of what they
believe Voice in writing to be placed on the class chart labeled Voice. Teacher observation was used for this and I
went around the room and the students each gave one example of they think voice is and what it does to writing.
The criteria used in this assessment to determine if their performance met the lesson objective was that each
student had to give one example when called upon.
The post-assessment that was used in this lesson was student work. The students were given the prompt How
has school impacted your life. The students had to meet three criteria for this assessment: 1.) Students had to
include 3 examples of how school has impacted their life. 2.) Students had to use real words that allowed me to
hear their voice. 3.) Students could not just say School has impacted my life by making me a better person.
They were to tell me how school has made them a better person.

Discuss your plan for using these formative assessments to help you

determine student progress pre-, during, and post lesson.

The assessments that I plan on using to assess student progress in teacher observation and monitoring. I will
walk around the classroom and be sure to make sure students are paying attention and understand the content. I
will also allow time for questions the students may have. I will also tak up student work and make sure that it
meets the 3 criteria for voice in their journals. The importance of collecting this data is that it allows me to see
student progress and student understanding. Also, it allows me to see if students understand the content or need it
to be re-taught.

Analysis of post-assessment results

Student work can be seen down below this in Weebly.

Student 1

Student 1 did very well on this assessment. She met all

three criteria and I could really hear her voice
throughout reading her journal. I could tell that she
really grasped the concept of voice and what it can do
for writing.

Student 2

Student 2 did okay as well. I could really hear her

voice throughout reading her journal. However, she
only met 2 criteria. She did not include 3 examples of
how school impacted her life. However, she seemed to
grasp a basic idea of voice.

Student 3

Student 3 did okay as well. He met two criteria,

however, I think he may have got confused with some
of this wording. However, I could hear his voice, it
was just hard to interpret.

Student 4

Student 4 did very well on this assessment. She met all

three criteria and I could really hear her voice through
her words. Based on her writing, I can say that she
really understood voice and its impact on writing.

Student 5

Student 5 did really good too. He met all three criteria

and I could hear his voice throughout his journal. I
could tell he understood what voice is and how to use
it effectively.
