Metaphoric Educational Model

Educational student learning is like a basketball team


The coach of the team itself is the teacher. The basketball that is being played is the
knowledge that is being transmitted from teacher to student. The start of the practice is when
people to start to gather to watch the team practice every time they have practice and symbolic of
how students gather around their homeroom teacher at the beginning of the school session
everyday. The coach then tells the team to start practice with their daily drills, which the players
already know to do without the coach telling them to do it. The homeroom teacher also helps the
students plan out their day by having them do daily homeroom activities. The homeroom teacher
can also have the students tutor each other day so that the students soon begin to associate
homeroom period with assist each other with homework.

The order in which the coach start executing game plans for the practice sessions diverse.
The orders in which the teacher implements teaching strategies vary. The teacher usually has a
lesson plan ready to teach to the students in the morning. So while the teacher is able to decide on
this, the teacher cannot decide the educational program of the students. This is because states
usually have already decided on this in conjunction with the Common Core state standards.
Additionally, the schools always decide on the educational syllabus that the students must follow
throughout their academic year. Therefore, while the team players can advise on what game plans
implemented it is ultimately up to the coach to decide.
Additionally, the school administration can interfere on the management of the basketball
team if they feel the players G.P.A. is too low or their game winning average is low also. The
school administration can then begin to drop small hints that would cause the team and players to
make a complete reversal of their dilemma. Furthermore, the parents and school administration
can also show support for a particular vote at the school administration meeting in district
headquarters. This would give the members on the school administration the necessary hints for
them to vote the way the parents and school administration wanted in order to change curriculum
at a school. However, the parents and school administration only do this when they feel that very
strongly on certain curriculum issues. Therefore, most of time the teachers at the school follow
the curriculum given to them to the letter.
Furthermore, players that are benchwarmers on the basketball can improve their playing
skill of the right assistance is given to them allowing them to assist their team during real
basketball teams. Doing this will allow the players to reflect on what areas they need to improve
on so that they can really assist their team during games. Additionally, students who are usually
overlooked in class can improve their educational standing if given the assistance required to do
so. With the assistance the students would be able to engage in self-evaluation in order to find out

what academic areas they need to improve and thereby improve their educational standing in the
class. Proverbs 18:15 states An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise
seeks knowledge (ESV). Therefore, a teacher shouls always want learn more in their educational
profession since they will be able to acquire knowledge that will assist them in their teaching
profession.

Reflective Statement for Metaphoric Model

Relevance: Why is this assignment relevant to demonstrating your competence with this
SLO?
This model is relevant because it would gives the necessary information needed to improve
instructional practices and institutional cultures also. For an improvement for an institutional
cultures to take place change needs to first there needs to be people who are willing to change the
system to accomplish this. Once people who are willing to change the system appear then can the
reformations or improvements take place depending on who is asking. For some these changes
might be seem as reformations while for others they might look like improvements to the schools
education system. When a change needs to be enacted on a basketball team from the bottom up it
is the school administration that are the ones to do this. This is since the basketball team is a part
of the schools educational system the school administration can enact these changes immediately.
Therefore, knowing how enact change in a school system is necessary for those wishing to be
teachers since knowing these will help the teachers with situation they might not be able to handle
on their own. Therefore, this model is helping me employ a leadership practice that will help to
optimize the educational learning of the students and thereby meeting the educational goals the

school and myself may have set for them. Thus, I am able to optimize the educational and
institutional outcomes to their fullest potential with this model.

Significance - Why is competence with this artifact (i.e. Metaphoric Model) significant for a
professional educator?
Competence with this model is needed because it assists teacher with how they
employ their teaching strategies. This especially truthful with teachers that want to pursue
teaching careers in the field of English Language Teaching. Additionally, some teachers
arriving overseas at a position like this may seek to immediately change the instructional
practices and institutional cultures at their place of employment. However, they would have
thought carefully think this topic over before doing anything that can affect their
employment at this school. Therefore, if the teacher does not have the relevant intercultural
skills to approach this matter then the teacher will have created trouble before even being
on the job. This is because of the language, which adds an entire new challenge when trying
to teach a concept that may be simple to understand to native English speakers but that to
English Language learners may be more difficult because of the language barrier.
Therefore, being competent with this model will allow a professional educator to adapt their
teaching style in order to fit the individual need of the language students.

research base?
The role of the teacher is also to teach and model effective strategies toward the students and to
correct any misconceptions the students might have on the educational strategies being taught to
them. Additionally, while students can only influence each other a little in this theory the role of
the student is to be an active processor of information while also organize and reorganize
information in order to better remember it. Furthermore, it is linked to the Big Idea that learning
is enhanced when learners engage in self-evaluation. When the students are comprehensively
monitored by the teacher this will allow them to engage in self-evaluation which will make them
want to be correct in the responses that they are given to the teacher. The students will want to
learn more in order to be sure that the responses they are giving are correct. This will allow the
teacher to use effective teaching strategies to transmit the educational concepts to the students.
The group dialogue would also allow the students to practice social skills that would enable them
to only work as a team but also give them the educational skills needed to succeed in any
educational goals they may have set for themselves. Additionally, this also fits into the Big Idea
that learners benefit from hearing or reading the ideas of others. Since the learners are in-group
dialogue with each other they are able to shares ideas and thereby share knowledge that will lead
them to learn reinforce everything that they have learned so far in the group dialogue. Thus, the
learners are able to expand their knowledge base when in dialogue with each other and benefit
from hearing each others ideas on whatever the dialogue may be about.
Resources/Technology- What technology did you select to support this artifact? Include
interactive applications and videos any/all technology suitable.
The technologies that I would use are videos from YouTube and tablets since these would be the
most helpful in an English Language Learning class. These technology items would benefit me
the most based on the lesson I would be present the class with.

Professional Actions/Areas for growth Discuss the results/changes in your professional growth as you worked through the process of
creating your metaphoric model. What are some areas you would like to grow in as you
practice your profession?
The next steps that I will take in order to keep moving forward would be to keep on learning
more educational teaching strategies that will enable to keep adapting my teaching strategies in order to
better enhance student learning. Going overseas will also enable me to expand my worldview in order
for the teaching experience I wish to obtain while abroad. I will able to learn from new teaching
strategies that will enable me to enhance the language learning of the students that I may one day have. I
will also be able to articulate my worldview to my students through my teaching strategies, which will
help further their language learning at a faster rate. The students will also be able to know what type of
teacher I am through how they perceive my teaching strategies. They will then begin to trust in me more
as a teacher which will allow me to get to know them better thereby allowing to adapt my teaching style
to fit the individual needs of each student in the classroom. This will be possible because of how I have
gotten to know the students better through which I am able to know in what area of language learning the
students need improvement in. However, being a professional in the field of international education will
require me to keep learning by always improving and adapting my teaching styles and educational
philosophy. Therefore, being an educator will require the teacher to always be willing to improve and
adapt to the situation, which a good educator will always do and therefore continue to thrive in the field
of international education.
