Research Proposal Are online classes really worth it in the long run?

Purpose
The topic I wish to explore is online classes. Within my research, I hope to find that online
classes are actually bad for the students.
Some of the questions I hope my research will answer are
Do students learn better online or in the classroom?(Cruz)
What is the cost of online vs the cost of classrooms? (Bird)
Should we get allow computers in the classroom? (Taylor)
In the future, will everyone lean towards online classes? (Wuensch)
What is the attention span of online classes vs the classroom? (Poisso)

Background
Since technology is a big part of our lives, online classes are becoming more and more popular.
People think that they benefit them because they dont have to go to class and because it is a lot
cheaper. That may be the case, but in my experience, it isnt worth it. I noticed that in my online
classes, my professors gave me homework that didnt even apply to the lesson. It was just work
to keep me busy. I had a hard time learning this way. I also didnt like the fact that if I had a
question for my professor, waiting a day to hear back was the only way. There is no face-to-face
interaction and it is hard for me to learn that way.
Significance
Since there is a high demand for online classes, I believe that this will affect both those who have
never taken an online class before and those who have. It may be in a positive way and it may be
in a negative way. Education is a big part of our life. Sine online is becoming so big and so
popular, I think that each student and teacher should take the time to really learn about the pros
and cons of each.
Description and Methodology
I will use ProQuest online articles, college websites, US News, and I will also be interviewing
my grandma, Sheri Schmitt, who has been an English teacher for 25 years.
Outline

Introduction

background on classroom education

technology and future education
Thesis: Although secondayry and post-secondary has a higher
demand for online classes, online classes limit the studetn's
ability to learn by filling learning time with "busy" work, reducing
peer interaction, and limiting teacher-to-student communication.

My Position

online classes are not beneficial to students.

online classes are filled with busy work, no interation, and
cheating.

Opposing Position

online classes are cheaper.

online classes are easier for people who work and cannot go to
class.

Response to
Opposing Position

They may be cost effective, but a face-to-face interation with

teachers is more beneficial.

Conclusion

In the long run, a classroom environment is mroe beneficial to

students.
Students retain more knowledge, cheating goes dows, and
interaction goes up.
