What is Veganism?
What is the difference between
Vegans and Vegetarians?

Veganism v. Vegetarianism
Veganism is the practice of
abstaining from the use of
animal products, particularly
in diet, as well as following an
associated philosophy that
rejects the commodity status of
sentient animals

Vegetarianism is the practice

of abstaining from the
consumption of meat (red
meat, poultry, seafood and the
flesh of any other animal), and
may also include abstention
from by-products of animal
slaughter.

History of Veganism
Liz discussed the inception of veganism with Professor
David Plumlee: Veganism started with the belief of
reincarnation.
Buddhist and Hindu religions believe that their soul, after
biological death, begins life in a new body. In the Buddhist
tradition, the process occurs over six realms of existence
including: human, any kind of animal, and supernatural
beings

Why do people become

Vegan?

Moral Issues

Factory farming inflicts considerable

suffering on cattle, pigs, sheep, turkeys,
and chickens, all of which are sentient
beings.

Humans have only a trivial interest in

meat since it is a dietary luxury.

Health Issues

Consuming meat (eggs, dairy food)

and animal fat increases one's
chances of suffering heart disease

I feel healthy after Ive cut meat out

of my diet I even lost 20 pounds.
Plus, I can do more things I couldnt
do before such as running -V. S.

Environmental Issues
Livestock production contributes
considerably to the depletion of
soil fertility
Livestock are a major cause of
the depletion of freshwater
aquifer
3,000 liters of water are used to
produce a single kilogram of
American beef
