The major that will be the subject of my Disciplinary Literacies Project will be
Supply Chain Management.
In terms of governing gaze, one may choose this major because we are given the
perception that Michigan State University has the top Supply Chain Management
program in the country. Or, we are given the perception that greater than 90% of students
who graduate from MSU with a Supply Chain Management Degree receive jobs
immediately upon graduation. Or, we are given the perception that students who graduate
from Michigan State with a degree in Supply Chain usually start out making 55k+ per
year.
In terms of the acknowledge set of assumptions, a supply chain manager should
be able to manage equipment, hardware, and all the other logistical details of a company.
They must be able to purchase raw materials, deliver these materials throughout the
business, ensure there are enough materials, and make sure that the companys output is
on schedule and delivered on time.
In theory, if a supply chain manager does everything correctly, the business will
operate smoothly which will eventually expand the business.
Traditionally, Supply Chain Management has been a field that has been over
looked. Today, the field is rapidly expanding.
The three major methodologies of Supply Chain are return on assets (Net
income/Total assets), Inventory turns (Costs of goods sold/inventory) and revenue
growth(change in revenue from the prior year).
