1. Instructional Method- Presentations and Advanced Organizers: This method will be utilized often in class in efforts to put a visual context to the history being studied. Maps, timelines, ven-diagrams, and other charts and organizers will aid visual learners as well as provide relevance to many topics and concepts studied in the course. 2. Topic and Rationale- World War II I would teach the topic of World War II using Presentations and Graphic organizers to ensure that students grasp the entire concept of the topic. Let them see on maps and through charts the breadth of those affected by this war. This method helps round out texts as well as adheres to the visual learning style. All topics are enhanced by this method. Topics like colonialism and imperialism particularly lend themselves to this method. This method is also useful when covering societies large migrations and movements of people. 3. Features and Purposes- Presentations and Graphic Organizers (WWII) Via a presentation and the utilization of a variety of graphic organizers this topic would become more relevant, more easily attained by students. The purpose of utilizing this method is to help students reach a greater and more full understanding of WWII and its effects. 4. Advantages and Disadvantages- Presentations and Graphic Organizers The potential disadvantages to this method are that it does not offer much in adherence to kinesthetic learners style and that it must be presented in an engaging manner or students may lose interest. The advantages are that it offers visual context to the rhetoric and texts. It adheres to multiple learning styles and promotes retention and relevance of a topic.
Section II- Implementation of Method
1. Learning Objectives- Students will be able to show various allies and enemies during WWII by creating a graphic organizer.
2. Materials- Students will need their ability to think critically. Additional
materials include access to a computer. 3. The Model- The model of teaching for this lesson is Presentation and Graphic Organizers. This model was chosen because it allows students to see the breadth and effect of WWII visually. It also adheres to different learning styles and promotes greater retention and relevance of the topic. 4. Key Terms/Concepts- For this lesson key terms include, war, allies, axis, Fascism,, genocide, draft, Rosie the Riveter, treaties, atomic bomb, and peace 5. Background Knowledge- Students must know that nations often have different and opposing goals and this is brought to a head in war. War effects more than just soldiers and the nations involved. 6. Assessment- Students will be assessed by the graphic organizers and accompanying information they produce.
