Wyckoff vata omer" ckolt Heights Medical Center | Nevori Presbyterian Weatthcare System = pn se Cae Care sas ‘WYCKOFF HEIGHTS MEDICAL CENTER DEPARTMENT OF RADIAITON ONOCLOGY POLICY AND PROCEDURE MANUAL JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Senior Medical Physicist - Radiation Oncology POSITION SUMMARY: | Ensures that the hospital is in full compliance with Federal, State and City health codes as well as JCAHO requirements. Is involved in developing and implementing quality control and quality assurance programs for equipment and procedures. Provides in- service for all staff working with radiation, including teaching radiation physics to residents and providing review sessions for senior residents who are taking the board examinations. Must be on call for radiation safety problems as they arise. ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of Radiation Oncology SUPERVISES: Other Physicists and QC personnel PRI LY DUTIES RESPONSIBLITIES: A. Radiation Safety ‘© Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, and safety control ‘standards. «Ensures that hospital maintains all radiation licenses. Maintains other pertinent records to ensure compliance with current City, State and Federal radiation codes. © Assists in designing new therapy rooms and provides requirements for lead shielding. “Assists in drawing specification for new equipment. Performs acceptance tests on all new x-ray equipment and approves their use on patients. Reviews monthly occupational radiation exposure levels for staff B. Radiation Oncology © Assists in developing quality assurance programs and in maintaining performance standards within the department. Consults with staff on equipment performance, radiation safety to patients and staff, quality control in imaging systems and numerous diverse physical problems that arise in the department. off Heights Medical Center _Nowork Prosbytorian Hoattheare System Sn teense oot * Conducts required safety and calibration inspections and performance on Linear Accelerators and Simulators. © Conducts annual QC tests on all equipment as mandated by the N.Y. City Department of Health. ‘* Performs radiation surveys to ensure leakage radiation to adjacent areas are within safe limit, certifies that new equipment meet safety standards and performance criteria. © Performs calibrations of therapy units as per TG21 and TG-51 calibration protocols of the AAPM. © Provides in-service lectures to therapist and other hospital personnel. * Caloulates the radiation time to deliver the dose to the patient as prescribed by the physician and performs treatment plans to optimize the doze delivered. * Lectures to technolgists, nurses, and other hospital personnel on safe use of radioactive materials. + Performs acceptance tests to new equipment. C. General * Advises Safety Committee and participates in disaster plan for radiation accidents. Assists in identifying ravenous sources for billable procedures. Identifies misadministration and writes reports to radiation oncology director, hospital administration, and regulatory agencies * Serves on Radiation Safety, Quality Assurance and Safety Committees, Prepares renewals of licenses and required amendments. © Participate in inspections by regulatory agencies and assists in correction of deficiencies found if any. QUALIFICATIONS: 1, PhD in Medical Physics, ABR/ABMP Certified or 2. PhD in Physics and at least 2 years experience in clinical diagnostic radiology, ABR/ABMP Certified or 3. MS in Physics and 5 years of experience in clinical diagnostic radiology, ABR/ABMP Certified SKILLS: Advanced computer knowledge. Good oral and written communication skills capable to work with and lead others.
