Autism Spectrum Disorders

Autism is the result of a neurological disorder which can precipitate significant social,
communication and behavioral problems. Being four times more common in boys than
in girls, parents with autistic children often wonder why this condition occurs. Autism
occurs regardless of nationality or economic status. Autistic behaviors occur in one out
of five hundred individuals. In this discussion we will talk about the symptoms and why
autism occurs.
Abnormal brain development cause altered social interaction and communication
skills. Verbal and nonverbal communication, social interactions and leisure activities
are common problems that children exhibit body movements such as hand flapping,
unusual responses to people and resistance to routine changes create difficulty for a
child to function normally within his environment. The neurological senses such as sight,
hearing torch taste and smell could he come sensitized affecting the childs sense of
well being.
Abnormalities in the brains structure or function are generally thought to be the
cause of Autism, but no specific cause has been determined. Links among heredity,
genetics and medical problems are where researchers are focusing their investigations.
It appears that under certain conditions some children are been with a susceptibility to
Autism dive to unstable genes resulting in abnormal brain development. There are
researchers who are investigating problems associated with pre and post pregnancy
environmental factors viral infections, metabolic imbalances and exposure to chemicals
as possible cause of Autism.

Previously Autistic conditions were nothing more than unrecognized developmental

delays associated with mental retardation. Presently, Autism is thought of a neurological
disorder causing many problems with parenting and is the subject of much research.
According to, Autism Society indicates other factors besides the genetic component are
contributing to the rise in increasing occurrence of autism for example, environmental
toxins as mercury, which are more prevalent than in the past. The definite cause has
been elusive to the scientists but it only inspires them to continue their investigating so
that treatments can be developed to better the quality of life of every one affected by
Autism.
