Principles of Counting
Skill 1 a): Each object to be counted must be touched or included exactly once as the numbers
are said.
"Count out loud and touch each object"

Skill 1 b): The numbers must be said once and always in conventional order.

Skill 2: The objects can be touched in any order and the starting point and order in which the
objects are counted doesnt affect how many there are.
"How many would there be if instead of counting from this end (point), you started counting from
this end (point)?"

Skill 3: The arrangement of the objects doesnt affect how many there are.
"What if I put the objects like this (place in sets), how many would there be?"

Skill 4: The last number said tells how many in the whole collection, it does not describe the last
object touched.
