Lesson Objectives
History
Understanding the importance of water for ancient peoples;
Identifying the main rivers that influenced the ancient civilizations;
Finding common features of populations living around the great rivers;
Understanding the role of water both as a natural border between
states and as a connecting element between peoples;
Underlining the role of water for the ancient inhabitants of the present
day Romania (the Getae - Dacians).

Correct interpretation of the map
Statistical data processing and correct interpretation
Location on the map of geographic phenomena and processes
Observation of a specific pattern of natural and anthropogenic

Teaching Interactive Methods Employed
History
Students searched on the map the rivers that played an important role for
ancient peoples;
Students solved the worksheet and discussed the role of the Danube River in
the Roman conquest
Students became aware of the importance of water in the lives of ancient
peoples;
Students were actively involved and showed great interest in the topic
discussed.
Students extracted key information from historical documents and worksheets.

Interdisciplinarity:
History and Geography: using the map in order to spatially locate
certain events;
History and Religion: information on religious organization gives
precious clues regarding the every day life of ancient peoples.

Solving, analyzing and presenting the requirements in the worksheets;
Students defined, located and classified the flowing waters;
Students characterized the flowing waters according to the following
parameters: speed, flow, overflow and flood;
Students classified rivers according to the hydrological flow, focusing on:
Amazon, Ganges, Pad, the Seine, the Thames, the Dnieper and the Nile;
Students visited the Bahlui river in Iasi, where they analyzed the riverbed and
the works done to the riverbed in the last year.

Contest (3 4 students in a group) based on the worksheet Find as many ways as
possible to save water in the household;
It was as a virtual trip where students identified interesting sights and made a
comparison between old and new ways of transportation, storage and distribution of
water;
Interdisciplinary: History and Physics historical aspects of the Roman Empire
around the Mediterranean Sea, the Roman influence in language, government, law,
architecture, and many other aspects of daily life merged with scientific explanations
on transport, accumulation and distribution of drinking water, as well as on the
operating principle of fountains.
Environmental aspects were also looked into.

Students designed and presented the following materials:
Ancient Aqueducts architectural achievements of the Roman Empire.
Physical principles of transportation, accumulation and distribution of
water;
Famous Roman Bridges. Inhabited bridges. Water Between
Usefulness and Beauty;
From Heron s Fountain to contemporary fountains
The most beautiful rivers and lakes on Earth.
