The aly is located between the Troy Sports Center and a new bakery, and provides 2 convenient conoction tthe square fromthe Chery ard Frank stees parking lt Overall hisalleyisinreately good condition ‘Wiater fom downspout dais collects ata low spot near tho center ofthe alloy, where the asphalt pavement is begining to crack and deteriorate. There isan existing ‘overhead secur ight mounted to a building. Waste colecton and delvry services must be provided oc The existing plastic waste dumpers ol aogether obtrusive however, it coud be relocated away from view Wie also assessed the insurance busines andresidence ‘on Cheny Sirol. These structures are adjacent fo and Immediately south of the alley. The Ciy suggested purchasing and removing these structures to alom for adonal parking, The insurance agoncy appears tobe ‘viable business andhas architectural mer, asitsenves sa suitable anchor to the aly al Cherry Steet. The residence, a clapboard house, appears to need some remade work. We recommend that these structures not be demolished since they wil not offer a substantial ‘number of parking spaces (10-12 spaces or fewer). A parking lot hare would be dificult to acoess trom Chery ‘ret due to the numberof curb cuts across the steet. ‘Spaces ited andthe ll would naedtobe deae-ended hile providing landscaped separation othe alley There would bea loss of $ on-street parking spaces. (Our recommendations ar forte functional and aesthetic improvement of he alley, We suggest that storm water drainage be collected along tho center ofthe abey by insaling pipe and inlets. This pipe could extend out to Chery Sveet whore itcoutd be connected the existing | storm sewer of cub and gute. Some asphalt pavement resurfacing is required to eliminate ow spots and provide positive surface drainage. Downspouts could be ‘onnectod otis storm fine or be allowed to suriace dain toa nearby inl, ‘We propose thatthe squae's concrete paver theme be arid though the aly. The tom piping ana inlets ‘ould be locaed under and win afourfoct wide paver band extending from the square to Cheny Set ‘The ientication ofthis alley coud be improved by inroducing metal archays at both ends hat encourage pedestian use, These gateway arches can be mounted to a building or on decorative metal poles and may Incorporate informational or directional signage. Decorative ligt fidures may be mounted onthe building along the noth side ofthe alle. Al ights should match the style of hts the Cly has recently nsaled Pages
