George Washington an american hero by Austin

Sickles

On 1759, in a Virginia farm, the First president of the United States Of America
and the leader of the Continental Army was born. When he was in his teens he had a
strong urge to be in the army. This lead him the militia when he was an adult. When he
was in the militia he learned how to conserve ammunition and made him very valuable
when the continental army had very little ammunitions.

According to bio.com, After the passage of the Intolerable Acts in 1774,

Washington chaired a meeting in which the Fairfax Resolves were adopted calling for
the convening of the Continental Congress and the use of armed resistance as a last
resort. He was selected as a delegate to the First Continental Congress in March 1775.
This is where he got his way and joined an army. Another artical frome bio.com states
After the battles of Lexington and Concord in April 1775, the political dispute between
Great Britain and her North American colonies escalated into an armed conflict. In May,
Washington traveled to the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia dressed in a
military uniform, indicating that he was prepared for war. On June 15, he was appointed
Major General and Commander-in-Chief of the colonial forces against Great Britain. As
was his custom, he did not seek out the office of commander, but he faced no serious
competition.

This was the start of the war and many battles to come. The first battle he had
won was in Boston when he drove the Redcoats from the town. This was made possible
for he had got cannons from an abandoned fort. Than he placed the canoes on the hill
overlooking the town. when the RedCoats saw the cannones they started to evacuate

the town and Washington had won the battle. This battal info came from bio.com and
stated Washington and his small army did taste victory early in March 1776 by placing
artillery above Boston, on Dorchester Heights, forcing the British to withdraw.

A lot of his battles were won by using guerrilla warfare. This was used for they
were heavily outmatched so he had to fight dirty. This meant putting men in hiding
places to ambush the Redcoats. This didnt make the british to happy for they would line
up and overwhelm the enemy but washington would call a retreat than he would have
men sneak attack the redcoats from behind. This info was from once agen bio.com and
seas Political considerations and force of personality aside, George Washington was
not necessarily qualified to wage war on the world's most powerful nation. Washington's
training and experience were primarily in frontier warfare involving small numbers of
soldiers. He wasn't trained in the open-field style of battle practiced by the commanding
British generals. He had no practical experience maneuvering large formations of
infantry, commanding cavalry or artillery, or maintaining the flow of supplies for
thousands of men in the field. But he was courageous and determined and smart
enough to keep one step ahead of the enemy. One example of this is when he lead
troops to take new york during christmas

The most important battle is the battle of york. This battle was for 3 days strat.
They helped out from the redcoats because they were added by the french that had
wanted to break the colonies away from england. This is the battle that is on the board
in front of you. This battle was won when general Charles Cornwallis. this was the
officially the end of the war for independence. This info came from History.com and it

goes like this. Over the course of the grueling eight-year war, the colonial forces won
few battles but consistently held their own against the British. In October 1781, with the
aid of the French (who allied themselves with the colonists over their rivals the British),
the Continental forces were able to capture British troops under General Charles
Cornwallis (1738-1805) in Yorktown, Virginia. This action effectively ended the
Revolutionary War and Washington was declared a national hero.

after the battle he had resigned as the leader even though he could have
become king of the states. Instead he said goodbye to all of his troops and gave one
last speech and left the army. Than he was nominated to be president and he won the
election. this was shortly followed by the first swearing in of presidentes and he served
2 terms as the president. Than he Retired to his home on mount virginia. Where he
spent his last 3 years then he died but he had set free all of the slaves that he owned.
even when he died he was a hero to the people. This came from WHITEHOUSE.org
Washington enjoyed less than three years of retirement at Mount Vernon, for he died of
a throat infection December 14, 1799. For months the Nation mourned him. He had no
kin so his sword that he had taken into battle was passed on to his nephew then he
gave it to the government that put it on display in the smithsonian.
