Melindas Escape Fantasies

Melinda begins her school year practicing avoidance ignoring/avoiding her problems. She has done nothing to
make contact with her friends, and more significant than that, she refuses to think about what happened at the end
of summer: I bite my lip. I am not going to think about it. It was ugly, but its over, and Im not going to think
about it (5). Beyond ignoring what happened, Melinda also entertains escape fantasies. Please keep track of
