Math Video Analysis
When watching the video of my lesson, I learned a lot of my classroom presence. I
realized after my lesson that I was not using the classroom microphone. I usually use the
microphone to help project my voice. I am kind of quiet, and I realized it was hard to hear me. I
should have used the mic, or projected my voice.

I noticed that my back was to the class too often. The students on the far sides of me
probably had a hard time seeing the board. I should have stayed forward, and to one side. This

would have made it easier for the students to

seeo and

it also would have helped them to hear my

Le

voice.

I do feel like I have appropriate wait time. I encourage my students to raise their hands,
and to not shout out the answers. I have explained that this gives everyone the chance to think

about the answer before someone is called on. I also feel like I give everyone an equal

opportunity to answer. I use Popsicle sticks with the students' names on them to call students

randomly. When a student is called on, and does not know the answer, they are allowed to ask
another student for help. This way students do not feel bad for not answering. The students help
each other out, which builds classroom community.

Overall, I feel like I have a great relationship with my students. I have a personality that
makes me easy to talk to, and easy to approach.

My students

are not afraid to take risks during

lessons, and they love to share their thinking. During my lesson, some students were giving

incorrect answers, but we worked the problems out together as a class in order to find the correct
answer.

I feel like I have a positive presence when I am in front of my class. I am loving and

accepting to all of my students.

the board. This way they can see where they have made the mistake, and they usually correct

their answer without me needing to correct it for them. I am good at reviewing previous concepts
and helping them apply them to their new learning.

Something I could work on is incorporating real-life problems them help them make
connections to their everyday lives. I have been using the My Math program, because my mentor
teacher would like me to teach from the program. However,I think my teaching would be more

beneficial if the students could see ways that it applies to their

not included in the My Math

program. I feel this will be easier to do when I have my own classroom because I can plan
lessons in my own way.

I have created my lessons with my mentor teacher, and I have taught the

way I have been asked to. I feel students would benefit from other hands-on activities and
problem solving activities.

I also feel

one of my weaknesses is the closure and review.

I struggle with this not only in

math lessons, but in every subject. I find it hard to effectively close and review without asking
simple yes/no questions, or having too much teacher talk. This is definitely an areal could work

Overall, I was happy with my lesson and my video. I was nervous to view the video, but
tealized I am confident when teaching mathematics. It has taken a while for me to feel this way,
and I know

I still have

a long way to go.

I have grown a lot since my first semester of teaching,

and I have observed that through this video analysis.
