BURIAL OF THE 6th-7th CENTURIES AD NEAR

THE VILLAGE MOKHNACH
Summar y
The paper introduces materials on the burial dating to the 6th-7 th century AD found near the village
Mokhnach of the Kharkov region. The burial was made in a pit with a special niche at a depth of 2.70 m
and was rich with funeral goods (more than 20 items): lock rings, collar neck-rings, finger and wide
lamella fibulas, a chest chain, marine shells, pendants, bells, badges, a buckle, a belt head, bracelets, a
fingering, glass and amber beads (117 samples of amber beads), a body ornament in the form of a couple
of bronze plates with a concave loop, a clay pot etc. The appearance of the dead is being reconstructed
now. Based on the developed chronology of fibulas, the dating of the burial is established: the turn of the
6th - the 7th - the middle of the 7th centuries AD. Specific traits of the burial design, southernwestern
orientation as well as certain objects of the burial goods show that the burial belongs to the SarmatianAlan tribes that were one of ethic components of the Penkovo culture.
