Verbs
- Verbs also change to show tense. Up to now, everything was written in the Present tense: 2 past
tenses are introduced in Chapter 17
Imperfect (action in the past, but not completed) was running, were shouting
Perfect (action in the past, completed), ran, shouted, walked, have shouted, have spoken.
Stem+ba+m, s, t, mus, tis, nt = Imperfect
Porta-ba-m - I was carrying
Porta-ba-s You were carrying
Porta-ba-t He was carrying
Porta-ba-mus We were carrying
Porta-ba-tis You (pl) carrying
Porta-ba-nt They were carrying
Perfect stem + perfect endings, I, isti, it, imus, istis, erunt = Perfect
Portav-I I carried
Portav-isti You carried
Portav-it He, she, it carried
Portav-imus We carried
Portav-istis You carried
Portav-erunt They carried
Perfect tense of sum, esse, fui
Fui I was
Fuisti You were
Fuit He, she, it was
Fuimus We were
Fuistis You were
