Writing about an entrepreneur by Marcos Ferreira Navarro

I want to start this composition by writing that I do not like to write about entrepreneurs because it
is not my style. However the task demands what demands, so I am going to write about Fikret
Abdi. I know what you are thinking right now. Who is this guy? I will explain this for the goals of
this text.
Fikret Abdi was born in September 1939 in Velika Kladusa, which is located in the northwest of
Bosnia and Herzegovina. If I am writing about this person is because he was able to transform
Agrokomerc from an agricultural cooperative into a modern food company during the decade of
1980s. This company was able to employ around 13.000 workers and at the same time boosted the
economy of the area of Velika Kladusa, the home place of Abdi. Actually, He got so powerful that
people in the zone started to call him Babo (Dad in Serb-Croatian). His prominence also gave him
the possibility to create strong connections with some people that formed part of the political
sphere.
In 1987 Abdic and Agrokomerc were well known all around Yugoslavia when a scandal that
affected directly to the company headlined the front page of the most important mass media in the
country. What happened was simple. Abdic started to issue fraudulent promissory notes to
individual and company investors such as banks. The total amount of money issued through the
bonds or promissory notes reached a billion dinars (the Yugoslavian currency back then).
Moreover, there was an additional problem. This corruption case took place in a truly dfficult
situation of the Yugoslavian economy. Since the beginning of the decade of 1980s, the Yugoslavian
economy had been facing terrible problems. Inflation, unemployment, budget cuts, decrease of the
salaries, increase of the inflation, etc. Basically, the standars of living of Yugoslavian population
declined in that decade. And to make the things worse, the corruption case affected directly to some
important politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina such as Hamdija Pozderac. Eventually, Abdi had
to appear in front of a cout of justice and after the judges declared him guilty , He was imprisoned
for a short time.
After serving his sentence, in late 1990s, he was released and straight after that he started his
political path. But his path from this moment on is not a topic included in this writing, hence, I
would say this is the end of the composition.
