Hungary - List of Champions

No teams from outside Budapest played in the league until 1926. Starting with th
e 1907/08 season, regional championships were organised, whose winners played of
f for the "Vidki Bajnoksg", the "provincial championship". The winners of that pla
yoff were entitled to challenge the Budapest league champions for the Hungarian
championship; however, such a match was to be played in Budapest, which was a fi
nancial burden on the provincial clubs; so only one such playoff took place befo
re the First World War (in 1909), and the result was unequivocal. In 1924/25, a
tournament involving the top-2 of the Budapest league and the 6 regional champio
ns was played for the Hungarin championship; in 1925/26, the Budapest runners-up
did not enter. In all seasons in which an all-Hungarian final was played, it wa
s won by the winners of the Budapest league.

1901-26 Amateur era
1901-08 Teams only from Budapest took part
1914-15 Cancelled due to war but from 1916-18/19 war championships operated
and are recognized by the FA.
1926 The professional league was introduced with 10 participants also from
other cities than Budapest, like Sabaria, Szegedi Bastya etc.
1935 The first National Championship was held. (Nemzeti Bajnoksag,NB) 14 teams.
1940 Hungria (MTK) was banned by the fascist government.
During the war teams from the neighboring countries participated,since the
territories were adjoined to Hungary, that's how Nagyvarad became champion..
1944 It was abandoned due to war.
1945 New NB starts.
1956/57 abandoned due to revolution.
