The mosuo people are an ethnic group in china ,8 hours from Shanghai . They are
a small enough community of around 30,000 people who have a dierent society
structure than any other place in china. Mosuo is a matriarchy unlike any other
place in the world. At the age of 14 girls are given a room . At night a man comes
into her room and she chooses whether she wants him or not. After spending the
night the man leaves in the morning. No children are seen as "wild", all children
are accepted as part of the community. The mosuo people are Buddhists and do
not believe in marriage, however , 90% of those who are married remain fateful to

their partner.

#Chinese language# :

Unlike the English alphabet of 27 characters the Chinese language has 2500
characters that are used regularly. In 1949 when communism began in China the
Chinese characters were simplified so that everyone had the ability and
opportunity of education as this is the ideal way of communism. Cangjie was the
creator of the Chinese language of characters , and it was said that he had four
eyes. In the 1950s pinyin, a system of roman letters that express Chinese words.
It is used on menus and street signs so tourists. However, it is not only tourists
that use pinyin, students learn pinyin in primary school aswell.

Chinese family:

Chinese families have dierent cultures than Irish families. For example in a
chinese family newly married couples move in with the grooms family
traditionally. An Irish newly married couple usually move in to their own house
together to start a family. Although Irish people respect their families they do not
take it as extremely as Chinese people do. To a Chinese person filial piety is held
in very high regard. They would never dream of misbehaving in school, speaking
out of turn or being disrespectful as it would bring shame on their family name.
Chinese people believe that love, respect and good conduct to keep their good
family name. Another custom that does not occur in Ireland is foot binding which
us a traditional Chinese custom. Up until a generation ago Chinese girls would
have their feet bound at the age of 2, this was so there feet would not grow. Big
feet were an embarrassment on the family especially if they were over 3 inches.
When a Chinese girl with bound fret got married the grooms family would lift up
her long skirt and look at her feet. If they were too big they would disown her and
embarrass her in font of all the wedding guests.Irish families do not have this
custom, foot size is not something we worry about.another thing about Chinese
families especially the Han ethnic group (91.5% of the population) have a one
birth policy, because of this there is a gender imbalance towards more males as
each couple is only allowed one birth the want to have a boy... If they find out
their unborn child us a girl they are more likely to abort the child .

In china weddings are a very special event. chinese women often don't get
married out of love but out of family arrangements.this was the way in the past of
matchmaking but nowadays couples are free to choose who they marry for the
most part.choosing a date for the wedding is very important, they must choose a
day that brings good luck for both of them.to do this they rely on astrology and
numbers.on the day if the wedding the bed is dressed with scattered with red
