Sarah of Genesis
Sarah was born in 1700 B.C and died in the same century. Sarah and Abraham lived
and were married in Haran but then at the age of 75 God commanded Abraham to leave and go
to Canaan. So they picked up and moved to Canaan. Sarah was thought to be a very beautiful
woman. Her name was actually Sarai but later she changed it to Sarah.Sarah didn't bear
children until she was much older but her husband and father of her child was Abraham who
she spent her whole life with.
Sarah had a fairly easy life, married a wealthy man, had good luck, however she lacked
the capability to carry a child until she was very old. They prayed for a baby every minute of
every day and while Abraham loved her very much but in those days a baby boy was your only
hope of your family name living on. Sarah always wanted to be a mother but she didn't have the
pleasure of bearing a child until her later years.
Abraham was told by God that his descendants would be blessed with land and
leadership. Hearing this, Sarah knew that she had to bear a son before she died or this beautiful
blessing would be forever lost.
Sarah played a significant role in the bible because she was Abraham's wife and
believed to be the founder of the country we now call Iraq. Sarah always believed in god and the
fact that he had a good path for her to follow and he had given her all she needed except a son
to support her. When she gave her slave Hagar to her husband to try and conceive a son, it
worked, but Hagar ran away which made Sarah Despise Hagar even more because she could

conceive a child. her even more. Hagar only returned to Sarah when God told her she must
return. Sarah then kicked Hagar and Ishmael into the desert with nothing in the hopes that they
would die.
Sarah made some very questionable decisions in her life but overall she loved the
people in her family and had a great deal of love for Abraham and eventually her child, gave her
a lot and really put her name in the bible. If Sarah had not conceived Isaac, we would not have
the long line of descendants from her and many things would not have happened because she
and Abraham lead to one of the greatest countries.
Sarah was a very strong woman. She had luck many would have wanted except a son.
However, she also had many bad qualities; other than being so jealous of her maid, she tried to
make her die along with her son, so she wasn't the nicest woman. It was extremely hard for her
not to bear a son but she was extremely lucky because she had a husband that didn't die and
that took care of her until the day she died.
Finally much later in Sarah's life she was able to bear a son, Isaac, and her family name
got to live on to conquer and do great things. Sarah is a very important person in the bible
because she is the woman that carried the first of many descendants of Abraham who
eventually ruled a great amount of land.
Biblical scholars talk a lot about how Sarah did everything to get rid of Hagar even after
she used her to try and get a child. They also talk about how amazing it is that at the age of 90
she managed to bear a son. They also speak about how lucky she was to have a husband who
didn't pass away and that loved her even though she didn't conceive a boy until very late in her
life. They say, " Sarah was told by God that she would conceive a child for her husband."
