Create a Brochure to Promote Micro-Enterprises in Africa

Pretend that you work for an organization that is responsible for educating women in
Africa about micro-enterprises. Your job is to design a brochure that you could give to
these women to help them understand what micro-enterprises are all about. It should
be eye-catching and easy to understand. It should also answer the Essential Question for
this unit: How are women micro-entrepreneurs in developing countries changing their
communities?
You have a limited budget for this project so you must create your brochure using just
one standard-size sheet of paper.
Your brochure must have these things:
1. An attractive cover page with a title. The cover page should be eye-catching. It
should make the reader want to see what is inside.
2. A section about challenges faced by people in developing countries. Talk about
challenges faced in Africa by everyone and especilly women. It should focus on
challenges faced by women and how they are trying to get out of poverty. (See your
Reading Notes for Section 21.2 for ideas.)

3. A section for each kind of micro-enterprise that African women have

developed. (21.3: Grinding Peanuts in Rural Mali, 21.4: Selling in Ugandas Poor Mans
Market, and 21.5: Cooking Up Comfort Food in Botswana.)Each should be a panel inside.

Each section should explain the business they developed and tell how
they have impacted the women, their families, and the people in the
community
4. A map that corresponds to Africa and the businesses. (Where are these microentrepreneurs located?) A map of Africa with the countries highlighted would be an idea.

Also, each section should have:

an appropriate title.
include at least one drawing that helps tell the story of that section.
has clear, simple text. Remember, your readers might have little or no formal
education.
Make your pamphlet as interesting and engaging as possible. Make people want to read
it and not want to put it down! Be as creative as possible!
