1.1WelcometoSystem6000

System6000isabatteryoperatedguestroomdoorlockingsystemdesignedtoofferthe
highestpossiblelevelofsecuritytoaproperty.

Therearetwotypesoflocksyoucanchoosefrom;
MagneticreaderlockAmagneticallyencodedkeycardisprovidedtoeachguestuponcheckin.
RFIDLockAguestisprovidedaRFIDkeycardorFOBtopresenttothelocksuponcheckin.

Whenthiskeycardisusedatthelock,acircuitboardwithinthelockreadsthecodeand
releasesthelockingmechanism,allowingtheguesttodepressthehandleandentertheroom.
Whenanewkeycardismadeforasubsequentguest,andthiskeycardisusedatthelock,the
previouslyissuedkeycardwillnolongerbevalid.Thisfeaturehastheeffectofchanginglock
andcombinationwitheachnewguestthatoccupiesaroom.

Frominsidetheroom,thelockprovidesadeadboltorprivacybutton,helpingtoensureboth
privacyandsecurity.

1.2System6000Components

ThebasicsystemincludestheSystem6000,keycardencoder,andtheSAFLOKelectronicdoor
locksandkeycards.AnEmergencyLockPowerSupply(ELPS)andLockProgrammerand
Interrogator(LPI)InterfaceProbeandahandheldLPIDevicearealsoincluded.Multiplekeycard
encodersmaybepurchasedforasmanycheckinstationsasrequired.

TheSystem6000isloadedontothefrontdeskcomputer(s).Theprogramisusedtogenerate
keycardcodinginformationandtokeeptrackoftheroomnumbersandkeyassignments,user
accesscodes,keycombinations,andahistoryofallsystemtransactions.Thecomputer(s)are
connecteddirectlytokeyencodingstationsforperformingthekeymakingtransactions.

AnLPI(LockProgramming/Interrogating)Deviceisalsorequired.TheLPIDevicealsohaslimited
memorycapacity,andisusedsolelyforprogrammingandinterrogatinglocks.Lockcode
informationisprovidedtotheLPIDevicebythemaincomputer.
KeycardEncodingStations

TheKeycardEncoderreceivesthekeycardencodinginformationfromthemaincomputeror
terminal.Whenakeycardisinserted/swipedintotheencoder,theinformationisdigitally
encodedontothemagneticstripormemorychiplocatedonthekeycard.

Forradiofrequencyidentification(RFIDlocks),theRFIDcredentialisplacedontheencoder,
andtheinformationisencodedviaradiowaves.

SeverallockmodelsareavailabletofunctionwithSystem6000.Saflokhastwotypesoflocks
whichusedifferentkeymedia.ThefirsttypeisaMagneticreaderlockthatfunctionsin
conjunctionwithMagstripekeys.ThesecondlocktypeisRFIDlocksthatuseMifareRFIDkeys
andFOBs.

Thelockscontainacircuitboard,whichisconnectedtoabatterypack.Whenaproperly
encodedkeycardisusedatthelock,thecircuitboardreadsthecodeonthekeycardandsends
anelectronicsignaltoreleasethelockingmechanism.Theguestthenhasapproximately56
secondstoturnthelockhandleandentertheroom.Ifthelockhandleisnotturnedwithinthe
allottedtime,thelockingmechanismwillautomaticallyreturntothelockedposition.Theguest
willthenreinsertthemagstripekeycardorpresenttheRFIDkeytogainaccesstotheroom.

MostSAFLOKlocksfeaturea1steeldeadboltandathrowdeadlockinglatchboltwithanti
theftfeature.Whenthehandleisturnedfrominsidetheroom,apanicfeatureretractsboth
thelatchandthedeadbolt.WiththeautomaticdeadboltADBfeature,thelockshavean
automaticdeadboltfeaturethatprojectsa1deadbolteachtimethedoorisreturnedtothe
closedposition,providingcontinuousdeadboltlatchingsecurity.Aprivacybuttonorswitchcan
beactivatedfrominsidetheroom,preventingpropertypersonnelfromenteringtheroom,
exceptinemergencies.
Keycards

Thekeycardisthemessengertothelock,andprovidesthelockwiththelockcoding
information.Thekeycardcarriesthecodeinformationprovidedbythecomputerandkeycard
encoder.Whenaproperlyencodedkeycardisinsertedorpresentedtothelockandremoved,
thelockcircuitboardupdatesthecodeinformationinitsmemory,renderingpreviouslyissued
keycardsinvalid.

EmergencyLockPowerSupply(ELPS)
The Emergency Lock Power Supply is used to restore battery power to a lock that has
insufficient internal battery power. When inserted into the lock, and inserting a cut valid
keycard, a lock with a dead battery can be activated. This capability eliminates the need to
forciblyremovealockfromadoorbecauseithaslostpower.Oncethedoorhasbeenopened,
thebatteriescanbereplaced.
LockProgrammerandInterrogator(LPI)InterfaceProbe/ELPSpoweroverride

TheLockProgrammerandInterrogatorInterfaceProbeservesasaninterfacebetweentheLPI
Deviceandthelock.Theprobecanbeusedtoprogramlocksortointerrogatealockwhenitis
necessarytoobtainahistoryofthekeycardsthatwereusedtoaccessthelock.Thesmartcard
probealsoallowsanemergencyoverrideoptionwhenadeadbatteryconditionoccursona
lock.Oncethedoorhasbeenopened,thebatteriescanbereplaced.

Operating system: Windows XP Professional or Windows Server
2003 (Windows Server 2003 is required if over ten [10] workstations);
appropriate server and client licensing is required
Minimum hardware specifications: Multi-core, 2 GHz or greater
CPU / 4GB or greater RAM / 100GB available hard drive space
Virtual Machine environments are supported with the following

of the individual customer and not SAFLOK.
Due to the wide performance variability of different manufacturers
hardware, SAFLOK cannot guarantee software compatibility with
all computers. If you require a list of computers that SAFLOK has
tested and deemed software-compatible, please contact SAFLOK
customer service at 1.800.999.6213.
The customer is responsible for completing all software updates
(e.g., Windows operating system & anti-virus protection).
If using a Serial interface with a Virtual Machine, the Virtual
Machine host computer must have an available dedicated Serial
port that can be allocated to the Saflok Server Virtual Machine.

YoucanusetheinstallationCD,oryoumaycopytheinstallation
CDtotheSaflokserveroranyothercomputeronthenetwork.

1. IfyouareusingtheCD,simplyinsertitintothecomputer
youwishtoinstallthesoftwareonandtheinstallation
processwillbeginautomatically.*Ifinstallingoverthe
network,browsetothefolderwherethesoftwareis
located,anddoubleclickPgmStup3FB2_1.exe,andthe
installationprocesswillbegin.

2. Thesetupprogramwillinformyouifthereareany

logfiletokeepitmanageable.Thisisperformedatthesametimeasthebackup.

o ArchiverecordthresholdisoneofthecriteriaSchedulerusestodetermineifanArchiveisnecessary.
Thedefaultsettingis20000.Inthiscase,whenSchedulerscanstheTransactionLogfileandithas
morethan20000transactionrecords,itwillalsochecktheArchiveMonthCounttoseeifitshould
createanarchive.Iftherearelessthan20000recordsinthedatabase,itwillnotperformanarchive.
o ArchiveMonthCountisthenumberofmonthsthatyouwanttokeepinthecurrentlogfile;anything
olderthanthissettingwillgetarchived.Thedefaultsettingis3(only1,2,or3monthsselected).In
thiscase,ifthereareover20000transactionrecordsandtheyareolderthan3months,Schedulerwill
createanarchivefile.
o Ifthereare20000records,andtheyareallunder3monthsold,anarchivewillnotbecreated.
Similarly,iftherecordsareolderthan3monthsbuttherearefewerthan20000,anarchivewillnot
becreated.
o TherecommendedsettingsfortheMessengerdatabaseare10000recordsand1Month.Asthereare
typicallymanyhundredsorthousandsofrecordsperdaythatarestoredintheMessenger
transactionlogfile(Saflokmsgrlogv2.gdb).
o OnceSchedulerhasdeterminedthatanarchiveneedstobeperformed,itwillarchivetherecordsfrom
theSafloklogv2.gdbfile,andputthemintoanARC_SAFLOKLOG####.gdbfile.
o Onceanarchivefilehasbeencreated,andatransactionhistoryreportisrunthatspansintothe
archivedrecords,youwillget2ormoredifferentreports,illustratedbelow.Thetopreportwouldbe
fromtheCurrentdatabase,andthesecondreportisfromthearchive.

underPerformthistask:

o Thissettingwillconfigurethebackuptasktoruneveryday,atthetimespecifiedintheStarttime
field.Bydefault,thisis3:00AM.Abackupusuallytakesaround1520minutes.Keyscannotbemade
duringthistime.Chooseatimethatwillinterferewiththepropertysoperationstheleast.Checkallof
theboxesforeachdayoftheweek,andalsochecktheboxesforInclude/Sweep6000.TheSweep
performsextramaintenanceandcleanuponthedatabase.

2. Next,clicktheTaskDatatab.In
theBackupDirectoryfield,
selectwhereyouwantthe
databasebackupstobestored.

3. Clickbrowseandselectthe
folder/driveyouwishtostore
thebackupsin.

Thebestpracticeistobackupto
anexternallocation,suchasa
networkdriveorUSBflashdrive.
Ifneitherisavailable,thenyou
mustcreateafolderonthelocal
harddisktostorethebackups.

o Bydefault,theBackupCountissetto7.Thisdeterminesthenumberofbackupsthatarestoredinthe
BackupDirectory.Itisrecommendedtoleavethissettingonthedefault.Whenthenumberofbackups
reachestheBackupCountnumber,thenewestbackupwillreplacetheoldestbackup.
4. Whenfinished,clickApplytosavethesettings.TheSchedulerisnowconfiguredproperly.

6. EnterastationID.Typically,LPIis
usedforLPIstations.Ifthereare
multipleLPIs,useanumberas
well(i.e.LPI1,LPI2,etc).Enterthe
PortnumberthattheLPIis
connectedto(i.e.ifconnectedto
COM1,enter1).SettheLPIBaud
ratetomatchthebaudrate
settingonthedevicethedefault

3.1Introduction

SAFLOKlockscontainasmallbatterypoweredcircuitboardthatincludesamagneticreadheadandthreeindicator
lights.Theselocksusestandardcreditcardsizekeycards.

Whenanencodedkeycardisinsertedintothelockandremoved,thereadheadreadsthemagneticcodethathas
beenappliedtothekeycardbytheencoder.Thiscodeisthenanalyzedbythecircuitboard.Iftheinformationis
correct,voltageisappliedtothelockingmechanismtoreleasethelock.

AmotorcontrolsthelockingmechanismonallSAFLOKMTandSL2500locks.Thismotorisactivatedbyasignal
fromthecircuitboard.Themotorwillreverseautomaticallyafterapproximatelysixseconds.

ThelockingmechanismontheSelectiscontrolledbyasolenoid.Thesignalfromthecircuitboardactivatesthe
solenoid,releasingthelockingpin.Thehandlecanthenbeturnedtoopenthedoor.Whenthehandleisturned,
thesolenoidisreleasedandthelockingpinisheldinthelockedposition.Thesolenoidisalsoreleased
automaticallyafterapproximatelysixseconds.

AllMasterkeycardsprovideaccesstoanumberofrooms,anditisimportanttoensurethatallMasterkeycards
areproperlylabeledanddistributedthroughacontrolsystemthatpreventsanyunauthorizedusage.

KeycardIDandMasterNumbers
WhenyoumadeaMasterkeycard,thecomputerwillautomaticallyassignauniqueidentificationnumbertoeach
card.Thisnumberappearsonthescreenbeforethekeycardisinsertedintotheencoder.Becertaintorecordthis
IDnumberonthekeycardbeforethetransactioniscompleted.

LabelingMasterTypeKeycards
Aftereachkeycardisencoded,markthekeycardwiththetypeofkey,masternumber,andIDnumber.Youcanuse
alabel,permanentmarker,orothersuitablemarkingdevice.Ifyouusealabel,makecertainthatthelabelis
appliedtothebottomonethirdofthecardsothatitwillnotinterferewhenthecardisinsertedintotheencoder
oralock.Ifyouuseamarker,coverthewritingwillcleartapetopreventerasure.Ifyoupunchaholdinthe
keycardtouseonakeyring,puttheholeatthebottomofthekeycard

EstablishingControlRecords
Establishacontrolrecordbyrecordingthekeytype,masternumberandIDnumberforeachkeyonaform.Then,
givetheblockofkeystoeachofthedepartmentheads(housekeeping,securityandmaintenance),andhavethem
signforthekeycardstheyreceive.

DistributingKeycardstoEmployees
Beforedistributingthekeycardstotheemployees,eachdepartmentheadshouldestablishasignin/signoutsheet
forcontrollingtheMasterkeycardsassignedtothedepartment.Whenthekeycardsaredistributedtothe
employeesatthebeginningoftheday,theemployeesshouldacknowledgereceiptbysigningthesignoutsection
ofthesheet.Whenthekeysarereturnedattheendoftheday,theemployeesshouldsignthesigninsectionof
thesheet.

ReplacingDamagedKeycards
IfyouneedtoreplaceadamagedMasterkeycard,youshouldmakeaduplicateofthekey.Thisisdonebyselecting
thetypeofkeyyouwanttomakefromthekeygroup,thenbesuretocheckonDuplicate.

Cancelingalostmasterkeywithanewmasterkey
Useoneofthenewkeycardsinallofthelocksinthatmasterarea.Whenyouusethekeycardinthelock,aflashing
greenlightwillappear.Ifaguestisinsidetheroomandthedeadboltorprivacybuttonhasbeenset,ayellowlight
willflash12times.Theselightsindicatethatthelockcodeinformationretainedbythelockhasbeenupdatedto
thenewlockcodeandthatthelostorstolenkeycardwillnolongerworkinthelock.Thisprocedureiscalledre
sequencingthelock.Iftheproperlightsdonotappear,useLEDdiagnosticstodeterminewhythekeycarddidnot
work.
Thedepartmentheadshouldthencollectalloutstandingkeycardsforthatmasterareaandissuethenewkeycards
asdescribedearlier.

UsingCancelIDtoinhibitspecificlostmasterkeyID
Create a cancel ID key for the key ID number that is lost. Use the Cancel ID key on every lock in the property
associatedwiththelostmaster.Theremainingkeysinthatmastergroupwillremainfunctioning.Thelostmaster
willnolongerworkonceeverylockhasreceivedthecancelIDcommand.

MasterKeycardExpiration
WhenaMasterkeycardisusedwithinsevendaysofitsexpirationdate,thekeycardwillproduceaonesecond
yellowlight,followedbyflashinggreenlights.Theselightsindicatethatthekeycardwillexpiresoonandshouldbe
replacedorreencodedwithanewexpirationdate.

Ifthekeycardisallowedtoexpirewithoutbeingreplacedorreencodedwithanewexpirationdate,thekeycard
willnolongeropenthedoor,andeightyellowflasheswillappearwhenthekeycardisusedinthelock.

Youwouldntdriveyourcarwithoutinsurance.Toomanythingscouldhappen.Similarly,youshouldntoperatethe
SAFLOKSystem6000withouttheinsuranceofstoredFailsafekeycards.

Ifyourpropertyiswithoutpowerorifyourcomputersystemfails,Failsafekeycardsareyourinsuranceagainst
lostrevenueanddissatisfiedguests.

ThepreparationandstorageofFailsafekeycardsshouldbedonewhentheSystem6000isfirstsetup.Ifyour
propertyisoperatingwithoutFailsafekeycards,itiscriticalthatyoucorrectthissituationimmediately.

Failsafekeycardsarebackupkeycardsforguestrooms.Thesekeycardsaremadeinadvanceandstoredinasafe
location.Intheeventofapoweroutageorasystemfailurethattemporarilypreventsthemakingofnewkeycards,
theFailsafekeycardscanbeissuedtoguestswhoarecheckingin.

Threesetsorsequencesofkeycardsshouldbecreatedandstored.Thiswillallowyourpropertytorentaroom
threetimesduringapoweroutageorsystemfailure.Eachofthesesetsshouldcontaintwokeycards,soeachguest
canhavetwokeysforhisorherroom.

EventhoughFailsafekeycardpreparationdoestaketime,thistimeandeffortwillgreatlypayforitselfinan
emergency.HereshowtoprepareyourthreesetsofFailsafekeycards:

First,getathreeringbinderforeachsetofFailsafekeycards.Useplasticholderpagesthataredesignedto
holdbusinesscardsorbaseballcards.TheseplasticpagesareidealforholdingtheFailsafekeycards.(Asan
alternative,youcanusethreebinsorboxeswithseparateenvelopesforeachroomskeycards.)

4.2SAFLOKLockFeatures

AutomaticInhibiting
Normally,aguestroomlockwillbesetuptooperatewithmorethanoneguestkeycardtype(Guest,Alternate
Guest,Failsafe).Thelockcanbeprogrammedtoautomaticallyactivateinhibitingbetweenthesekeycardtypes.
Whenanewkeycardisusedfromoneofthetypes,itwillpreventpreviouslyusedkeycardsfortheotherkeycard
typesfromactivatingthelock.

InhibitKeycard
TheInhibitkeycardisusedtopreventthecurrentGuest,AlternateGuestorFailsafekeycardsfromenteringa
room.Whenthiskeycardisusedinthelockandremoved,thecurrentkeysofthesetypeswillnotactivatethe
lockingmechanism.Thisfeaturepreventsguestswhohavecheckedoutofaroomfromlaterreenteringtheroom,
andisnormallyusedbyhousekeepingaftertheroomhasbeencleaned.

Block/UnblockKeycards
ThesekeyscanbeusedtotemporarilypreventaspecifickeyIDfromaccessingalockormultiplelocks.Aspecific
keyIDcanbeblockedallowingremainingkeyIDsinthesamekeygrouptoremainfunctioning.Theblockand
unblockkeycanbeassignedtobothguestandmasterlevelkeygroups.

AutomaticUnlatch/Latch
Alockcanbeprogrammedtoautomaticallyunlatchorlatchatspecifiedtimesforeachdayoftheweek.Akeycard
isnotrequiredtoperformtheunlatchingandlatchingactivities.Whenalockisunlatched,akeyisnotrequiredto
openthedoor.Thelockmayhaveupto16differentunlatch/latchtimesperweek.Thisfeatureisnotavailable
withtheSAFLOKSelectlock.

Unlatch/LatchKeycards
Alockcanbeprogrammedtoallowakeycardtolatchand/orunlatchthelock.Whenalockisunlatched,akeycard
isnotrequiredtoopenthedoor.Ifakeycardisused,thelockwilldisplaythenormallightsandwillfunction
normally.Whenthelockisonceagainlatched,avalidkeycardisrequiredtoreleasethelockingmechanism.This
featureisnotavailablewiththeSAFLOKSelectlock.

DeadBolt/PrivacyFeatureGuestLevelKeycards
Eachlevelofthelockcanbeprogrammedtoindicatewhetherornotanewkeywillcanceloutthepreviousguest
keysifitisusedwhenthedeadbolt/privacyfeatureisactivated.

Ifanewkeycardismadefortheroom,andthecurrentguesthassetthedeadbolt,thenewkeywillnotopenthe
doororupdatethelockcodestoredinthelock.Thiskeepsthecurrentguestkeyfrombeingcanceledifanew
guestismistakenlycheckedintotheroom.

DeadBolt/PrivacyOverrideMasterKeycards
Eachtypeofmasterkeycardcanbeprogrammedtoindicatewhetherornotitwilloverridethedeadbolt/privacy
function.Usually,onemasterkeycardtype(Emergency)isprogrammedwiththecapability,andisusedonlyin
emergencysituations.

DualKeycardEntry
Alockcanbeprogrammedtorequiretwokeycardstobeusedtogetherinordertoactivatethelock.Thekeycards
areencodedcontrolandnoncontrolkeycards,andifonlyonekeycardisused,itwillnotactivatethelock.At
leastoneofthekeycardsmustbeacontrolkey,andthekeyscanbeusedinanyorder.Dualentrykeycardsare
normallyusedtocontrolaccesstohighsecurityareas.

MultipleKeycards
Thelockcanbeprogrammedtohavemultiplekeycardsofthesametypefunctioningatthesametime.This
featureallowsdifferentdepartmentstobeassignedseparatekeycardswhilenotrequiringtheuseofadditional
masterlevels.Italsoallowsthelocktohandlevariableconnectingroomassignmentsforguestkeycards.

ElectronicLockout
Alockcanbeprogrammedtoallowakeycardtosetanelectroniclockout,removeanelectroniclockoutortoggle
betweensettingandremovinganelectroniclockoutforanykeycardtype.

Whentheelectroniclockoutisset,thelockwillbeelectronicallylockedfromtheoutside,andvalidkeycardswill
beunabletoactivatethelock.Everytypeofkeycardmustbeprogrammedtoindicatewhetherornotitwillbe
affectedbytheElectronicLockoutkeycard.Twoseparateelectroniclockoutlevelsareavailable,andtherecanbe
onekeycardtolockoutonlyGuestlevelkeycardsandanothertolockoutMasterandGuestkeycards.

InternalClockandCalendar
TheSAFLOKlockcontainsaclockcrystalthatmaintainsactualdateandtime.Thetimeisupdatedeveryminute
andthecrystalautomaticallyadjustsforchangesduetoDaylightSavingTimeandLeapYear.

InvalidDays
Boththelockandkeycardscanbeprogrammedtoonlyworkoncertaindaysoftheweek,asspecifiedbytheuser.
Ifakeycardisusedonaninvalidday,thelockwillnotopen.

ShiftKeycards
Keycardscanbeprogrammedtoworkonlyduringcertainshifthoursoftheday.Whenthekeycardismade,the
usercanspecifythestartandendtimesoftheshift.Akeycardcanhaveonlyoneshiftspecified.Ifthekeycardis
usedoutsidetheshifttimes,itwillnotwork.

KeycardExpiration
Keycardscanbeprogrammedtoexpireafteracertaindateandtime.Theexpirationdateandtimeisencodedon
thekeycardwhenitismade.Astandardexpirationisautomaticallyassignedbythecomputer,butthiscanbe
changedwhenthekeycardismade.

Failsafekeycards,whicharemadeinadvance,willexpirebaseduponthetimeanddatethekeycardisfirstusedin
thelock.ThelengthoftimeaFailsafekeycardwillworkisencodedonthekeycardwhenitisfirstmade.

LimitedUse
Onekeycardtypecanbeprogrammedtolimitthenumberoftimes(onetosix)avalidkeycardwillactivatethe
lock.Thisdeterminationismadeinadvance,andthenumberoftimesthekeycardwillworkcannotbevariedeach
timealimitedusekeycardismade.Youcanalsoprogramakeycardexpirationdateandtimewhenakeycardis
made.Thekeycardwillceasetoactivatethelockwhenithasbeenusedthespecifiednumberoftimesorwhenit
expiresatthespecifieddateandtime,whichevercomesfirst.

PassFeature
Thisfeatureisusedforspeciallockssuchaspooldoors,elevatorsorlimitedaccessdoors.Certaintypesofkeycards
canbeprogrammedaspass,allowingallkeycardsforthattypetoactivatethelockingmechanism.Thepass
featurecanbeprogrammedinseveralways:

PassonPropertyNumberTheselockswillallowanykeycardmadeatthepropertytofunctioninthe
locks.

PassNumbersSpeciallocks(lounge,elevator,etc.)canbeassignedapassnumber.Keycardswiththe
samepassnumberswouldhaveaccesstothelocks.Thepassnumberfeaturecanbeautomatically
encoded,orselectedbytheuserwhenthekeycardismade.

Lockswiththepassfeaturecanalsobeprogrammedtoallowthepasskeycardstofunctiononlyduringcertain
hoursoftheday.

InvalidKeycardShutdown
Ifteninvalidkeycardsareusedinalockinarow,thelockwillautomaticallyshutdownforonetotwominutes.No
indicatorlightswillbedisplayedduringthisperiod.Afteronetotwominutes,ifanotherinvalidkeycardisused,it
willcausethelocktoonceagainshutdown.Theuseofavalidkeycardwillterminatetheshutdownmode.

LEDDiagnostics
Ifakeycarddoesnotworkinalock,LEDdiagnosticscanbeactivatedbytheuseofthePPKandLEDDiagnostics
keycards.AfteractivatingtheLEDdiagnostics,thekeycardthatdidnotworkwillcausethelightindicatorsto
displayanerrorcodethatindicatesthereasonthekeycarddidnotwork.Iftheinsertedkeycardisavalidkeycard,
theindicatorlightswilldisplaythenormallightsandthekeycardwillworknormally.LEDdiagnosticscanbe
terminatedbyinsertingtheLEDDiagnosticskeycard,orwillterminateautomaticallyaftertwominutes.

LowBatteryandClockReset
Ifthelocksbatteriesarelow,oriftheclockneedstobereset,aredindicatorlightwillflashwhenacorrect
keycardisused.Ifthebatteryislow,theredlightwillflashalternatelywiththenormallightswhenthekeycardis
used.Iftheclockneedstobereset,theredlightwillflashsimultaneouslywiththenormalindicatorlightswhen
thekeycardisused.

Eachkeycardisalsoprogrammedtoindicatewhetherornotitwillbeaffectedbythelowbatteryorclockreset
condition.

HassledThefirsttimethekeycardisused,thelockwilldisplayonlytheredindicatorlightandwillnot
allowentryintotheroom.Whenthekeycardisusedagain,itwilldisplaythenormalindicatorlights,along
withtheredindicatorlight,andthelatchingmechanismwillbereleased.

LockedOutThefirstandeachsubsequenttimethekeycardisused,theredindicatorlightwillflash,but
entrytotheroomisdenied,regardlessofthenumberoftimesthekeycardisusedinthelock.

NotHassledandNotLockedOutWhenthekeycardisused,itwilldisplaythenormalindicatorlights,
alongwiththeredindicatorlight,andthelatchingmechanismwillbereleased.

Whentheclockisreset,orthebatterychanged,thekeycardswilloperatenormally.

SkippingKeycardsSequenceRange
Everykeycardisassignedasequencerangethatreflectsthenumberofnewkeycardsthatcanbemadeandnot
usedbeforethelockisunabletorecognizethenextnewkeycardmade.Therangecanbesetfrom115skips.

SoftwareDiagnosticsforHardwareFailures
Thelocksoftwareisdesignedtoidentifycertainhardwarefailuresthatcanoccurwithinthelock.Ifoneofthese
failuresshouldoccur,refertothetroubleshootingsectionoftheLockInstallationManualforspecialkeycard
procedurestoopenthedoor.

Thesehardwareproblemsinclude:

Thekeyswitchisstuckorbroken.Whenthisfailureoccurs,thesoftwarewillallowthelocktoread
thekeycardandactivatethelockingmechanism.

Themotorisjammedoramotorswitchhasfailed.Forsecurityreasons,whenthisfailureoccurs,the
softwarewillpreventanykeycardfromactivatingthelockingmechanism.

ThereisaproblemintheE2storagechip.Whenthisfailureoccurs,akeycardcannotbevalidated.
Thesoftwarewillpreventanykeycardfromoperatingnormally.

4.3UsingaStandardMagstripeKeycard

Thecardmustbeproperlyinsertedintothelocksothattheinformationonthecardcanbereadbythereadhead
containedwithinthelock.

1. Insertthekeycardfullyintothelockwiththearrowsidefacingup.
Makecertainthatthearrowsprintedonthefaceofthecardare
pointingtowardsthelock.

2. Removethecardassoonasithasbeenfullyinsertedintothelock.If
usingasmartormemorycard,waitforthegreenlightbeforeremoving
thekeycard.Thelockwillnotoperateuntilthekeycardhasbeen
removed.

3. Aflashinggreenlightwillappearonthefrontofthelockassoonasthecardis
removed.Thelightwillflashforsixseconds.

4. Whilethegreenlightisflashing,turnthehandletoopenthedoor.If
thehandleisnotturnedwhilethegreenlightisflashing,thelatching
mechanismwillbereturnedtothelockedposition.

TheSAFLOKADBandSelectmodelshaveanautomaticdeadboltfeaturethatautomaticallyprojectsa1deadbolt
whenthedoorisclosed.Thisfeatureprovidesadditionallatchingsecurityagainstforcedentry.However,whenthe
doorisclosedandtheautomaticdeadboltisinthelatchedposition,allvalidkeycardswillcontinuetohaveaccess
totheroom.

Foradditionalsecurity,eachlockisequipped
withaprivacythumbturn.Whenactivated
frominsidetheroom,onlythosekeycardsfor
levelsprogrammedtooverridethedeadbolt
willhaveaccesstotheroom.Forallothervalid
keycards,aflashingyellowlight(12times)will
appearwhenthekeycardisinsertedintothe
lockandremoved,andthedoorwillremainedlocked.

Toopenthedoorfromtheinsideoftheroomafter
theprivacybuttonorswitchhadbeenset,simply
depressthedoorhandle.Thisactionwilloverridethe
privacybuttonorswitchandwillenablethe

SAFLOKdemonstrationlockscanbeusedatthefrontdesktodemonstratetheoperationofthelockandkeycard
toguests,orfortraininginhousepersonnel.

Todemonstratethekeycardandlocktoaguest:

1. Insertthekeycardfullyintothelock,makingcertainthatthearrow
printedonthecardisfaceupandpointingintothelock.

2. Whenthekeycardisfullyinsertedintothelock,removeit
immediately.Thegreenlightwillbegintoflash.Explaintothe
guestthatthekeycardmustberemovedfromthelockbeforethe
greenlightwillbegintoflash.

3. Whilethelightisflashing,depressthehandletodemonstratehow
thelatchwillrelease,allowingaccesstotheroom.Explaintothe
guestthatthegreenlightwillflashforapproximatelysixseconds,
andthatthehandlemustbeturnedwhilethelightisflashingin
ordertoreleasethelockingmechanism.

4. Showtheguesthowtosetthedeadboltorprivacythumbturn
piecefrominsidetheroom.

5. Insertthekeycardfullyintothelockandremoveit
MT Lock
immediately.Theflashingyellowlightwillappear(12
times),andthehandlecannotbeturnedfromoutsidethe
room.ExplainthatonlytheSecurity/Emergencykeycard
willoverridethedeadboltorprivacythumbturnpiecein
eventofanemergency.

Whenthelocksareshippedfromthefactory,thebatteriesareinstalled.Thelockswillbefullyfunctioningwhen
installedonadoor.However,thelockswillnotacceptthekeycardsgeneratedbythecomputeruntilthelock
codesfromthecomputerareprogrammedintothelock.Toprogramthelockstoacceptthekeycards,youmust
usetheLockProgrammerandInterrogator(LPI)InterfaceProbe,alongwiththemainorbackupcomputer,
standardterminal,orLPIterminal.

LockProgrammerandInterrogator(LPI)InterfaceProbe
TheLPIprobeactsasaninterfacebetweenthelockandtheLPIdeviceandisusedtoenterlockcodeinformation
directlyformthecomputerintothelock.Itisalsousedtointerrogatelockstoobtainahistoryofkeycardsthat
wereusedinthelock,lockstatusinformation,andkeycarddiagnosticinformation.

TheLPIprobehasaninterfaceboardandcablewitha25pinconnector.Theprobecableisconnectedtothe
printerportatthetopoftheportableHandHeld(LPI)device.Theinterfaceprobeisinserteddirectlyintothelock.

ProgrammingLocksUsingtheLPIProbe
ToprogramlocksusingtheLPIprobe,youmustattachtheprobetotheLPIdeviceandfollowtheinstructionsthat
appearonthescreen.

Thesystemwilltransferthelockcodeinformationfromthemaincomputertothedevice.Aftertheinformationis
transferredtothedevice,youcanthendisconnecttheLPIdevicefromitscablesandtransportitandLPIprobeto
thelock.Inserttheprobedirectlyintothelockandyouwillbeabletotransferthelockcodeinformationfromthe
LPIdevicetothelock.

WhenyoudisconnecttheLPIdevicetotransportittothelock,itwillautomaticallyshifttobatterypower.The
NICAADbatteriesarelocatedinsidetheLPIdeviceandshouldenableyoutokeeptheLPIdeviceofflineforoneto
threehoursbeforerechargingisnecessary.Whenbatteriesbecomelow,alowbatteryindicatorlightontheLPI
devicewillbegintoflashandtheLPIdevicewillemitabeepingsound.Youshouldthenreconnecttheterminalto
itspowersource.

TheSAFLOKlockcontainsaclockcrystalthatmaintainsactualdateandtime.Thetimeisautomaticallyupdated
everyminuteandtheclockisautomaticallyadjustedforchangesduetoDaylightSavingTime(ifapplicable),and
LeapYear.ThedateandtimearealsoautomaticallyresetwhenevertheLockProgrammerandInterrogatorProbe
areusedtoprogramorinterrogatealock.However,thelocksclockwillneedtoberesetifanyofthefollowing
conditionsoccur:

ThelocksbatteriesaredisconnectedwithoutusingtheEmergencyLockPowerSupply(ELPS).
DaylightSavingTimechangesrequireamanualreset.
Thelockexperiencesafatallowbatterycondition.
Theclockhadnotbeenresetviaprogrammingorinterrogatingwithina12monthperiod.

Ifthelocksclockneedstobereset,aredindicatorlightwillappearwhenakeycardisused.Thefollowing
conditionscanapply:

HassledThefirsttimethekeycardisused,thelockwilldisplaytheredindicatorlight,butwillnot
allowentryintotheroom.Whenthekeycardisusedagain,theredindicatorlightwillflash
simultaneouslywiththenormallight,andthelatchingmechanismwillbereleased.

LockedOutthefirstandeachsubsequenttimethatthekeycardisusedinthelock,theredindicator
lightwillflashandentrytotheroomisdeniedregardlessofthenumberoftimesthekeycardisused
inthelock.

NotHassledandNotLockedOutWhenthecorrectkeycardisusedinthelock,theredindicator
lightwillflashsimultaneouslywiththenormallight,andthelatchingmechanismwillbereleased.

ResettingDateandTimeUsingtheLPIProbe
Toresetthedateandtime,usetheLPIprobeanddeviceandselectmenuoption#3ontheLPIdevice.Followthe

LockBatteries
Eachlockcontainsabatterypack,whichisusedtopowerthelockscircuitboardandtoreleasethelocking
mechanism.Twotypesofbatterypacksareavailable:alkalinebatteriesandlithiumbatteries.Thealkalinebattery
packcontainsfourbatteries.Thelonglifelithiumbatterypackcontainstwobatteries.

Thelocksbatteriesmayneedtobereplacedwhenoneofthefollowingsymptomsappear:

ADisplaykeycardproducesnolights.
AStandardkeycardalternatelyflashestheredlightwiththegreenoryellowlights,orflashesonly
theredlight.
TheLPIreportindicatesthatthebatteriesarelow.

Ifyouwishtotestalockforlowbatterycondition,useaDisplayLowBatteryStatuskeycard.Thiskeycardwill
verifywhetherornotthebatteriesarelowandneedchangingwithoutaffectinganykeycardsthatworkinthe

RemovingForeignMaterialFromLocks/ReleasingStuckCircuitBoardSwitch

Ifforeignmaterialshouldbecomestuckinthereadheadofalock,thelock
willproduceoneredflasheveryminute.Thisredflashwillalsoappearifthe
lockskeycardinsertionswitchisengaged.

Toremoveforeignmaterialfromalock,makearemovaltoolfromablank
keycard.Useapairofscissorsandfollowthepatternthatappearsbelow.It
isimportanttoremoveanyforeignmaterialasquicklyaspossibletoproven
drainingthelocksbattery.Thelocksbatteryshouldthenbecheckedby
usingtheLowBatteryStatusDisplaykeycard.

Insertthecutplasticcarddirectlyintothekeycardslotandattemptto
removethematerial.Aftertheforeignmaterialisremoved,theredflash
shouldnolongerappear,andavalidkeycardshouldopenthedoor.

Ifnoforeignmaterialisdetected,checkforanengagedcircuitboardswitch.
Toreleasethecircuitboardswitch,insertthecardintothelockwiththe
notchontheleftside,andattempttopulltheswitchforward.Ifyouare
unsuccessfulincorrectingtheproblem,itmaybenecessarytoremovethe
lockfromthedoortoreplacethecircuitboard.

Ifeitherconditionoccurs,checkthelocksbatterybyusingtheLowBattery
StatusDisplaykeycard.

CleaningKeycardEncoderandLockReadHeads

Thekeycardencodermagneticallyencodesinformationontothekeycardwheninstructedtodosobythe
computer.Thesekeycardsmustthenbereadbythereadheadwithinthelockinorderforthelocktoproperly
respond.Fortheencoderandreadheadtofunctioncorrectly,bothshouldbecleanedonaregularbasis.

Theencodershouldbecleanedatleastonceeachweek.Useaspecialfeltcleaningkeycard.First,signontothe
computer,followingtheproceduresformakingakeycard.Next,applyasmallamountofencodercleaningfluidto
bothsidesthecleaningkeycardandinsertthekeycardintotheencoderthreetimes.Eachtimeyouinsertthecard,
itwillberejected.

Eachlockreadheadshouldbecleanedtwiceyearly.Toclean,applyasmallamountofcleaningfluidtobothsides
ofthespecialfeltcleaningkeycard.Insertthekeycardfullyintothekeycardslotandremove.Repeatthisprocess
threetofivetimes.

TheInhibitkeycardaffectstheGuest,AlternateGuestandFailsafekeycardsandpreventsthecurrentkeycardsfor
thesekeycardtypesfromopeningthelock.Thepurposeistopreventguestswhohavecheckedoutoftheroom
fromlaterreenteringtheroomiftheirkeycardhasnotexpired.Itisgenerallyusedaftertheroomhasbeen
cleanedandisreadyforthenextguest.

ElectronicLockoutKeycard

TheElectronicLockoutkeycardisusedtodoublelockthedoorfromtheoutsideandpreventsotherkeycards
(excepttheSecurity/Emergencykeycard)fromactivatingthelock.Thelockcanbeprogrammedsothatthereis
onekeycardtosettheelectroniclockoutandaseparatekeycardtoremovetheelectroniclockout,oronetoggle

E2EraseKeycard

TheE2Erasekeycardisusedtoremovethelockcodeinformationstoredinthelocksmemory.Whenthiskeycard
isused,thelocksmemorywillbecompletelyerased,andnovalidkeycardswillworkinthelock.ThePrimary
Programkeycard(PPK)mustbeusedbeforetheE2Erasekeycardisused,yellowandgreenlightswillflashtwo
timessimultaneously,thentheyellowlightwillflashonce.
