Economics
Economics is a semester long required class for all 9th grade students that
familiarize them with the basic concepts of the economic world. Students
will be exposed to economic principles and personal financial literacy
skills, which will prepare them for 21st Century challenges as thoughtful
and responsible citizens.

General Expectations
Grades are based upon the demonstration of proficiency on units associated with a standard given during each formative or summative
assessment. Formative grades in addition to summative unit assessments will be used to holistically determine your grade.
Summative: 80% Summative measures of achievement are taken when unit master is expected. (i.e., unit tests, culmination of a project,
embedded assessments, etc.)
Formative: 20% Formative assessments measure the scaffolding skills and/or content embedded in the unit. Formative assessments are taken
frequently, after a student has practiced a skill or become familiar with content. Examples of formative assessments include but are not limited to
exit tickets, paragraphs, oral check for understanding, warm-ups, stages in a large project, etc.
Assessments will be graded based on teacher/district/state rubrics.
On group projects, students will receive a grade for individual work and a group grade.
Grades are based on achievement of Content Standards and Grade Level Expectations.

Class Expectations
Missing or incomplete assignments/assessments for this course: Superintendent Policies 6280 Homework and 6281 Make-Up Work, will be followed
for this course.

Student Expectations

Electronic Devices: ALL electronic devices will NOT be visible unless specified by Mr. Otterson.
Website: It is the students responsibility to frequently check the class website (www.otterson.weebly.com) for discussion
questions, homework, class readings and other class information.
Attendance: Attendance is required every day. Tardiness and unexcused absences will result in a loss of classroom
points.
Behavior / Language: Students will refrain from the usage of inappropriate behavior and language. Students are expected
to use proper classroom etiquette. If a student violates this they will be given a warning and if behavior or language
persists they will be subject to a punishment deemed by Mr. Otterson.

Food: Students are allowed to have food / beverage but it must be brought in on time (before the bell rings). If you are late
and have food in tow, you will be marked Tardy and lose all participation points for that day. Students will be held
accountable for cleaning up after themselves.
