Daniel Goynatsky

Mr. Trainor
HW #7
1. The American Revolution was inevitable because the colonies realized how much of a
burden and how unnecessary Britain was. After the French and Indian War, the colonies
no longer needed the British safeguard as the French threat was destroyed. Moreover the
colonies were doing really well economically and were completely autonomous. The
British began imposing embargoes and taxation acts such as the Stamp Act in order to
retain more control in the colonies but that just angered them and demonstrated the need
for a break from British rule. The Albany Plan for Union was the beginning of many
attempts to unite the colonies, planting the seeds for revolutionary thought.
2. Both the English Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence take a lot from
Lockes idea of the social contract. That is, the right of the Governing comes from the
governed. Both documents also list grievances that were a precursor to said document
being written. The rights guaranteed by the Declaration and the English Bill of Rights are
very similar in that they protect the right to fight against an unjust government and other
unalienable rights.
3. The obvious difference is that in Jeffersons original draft he had a section about slavery
and the way the Kings authority was being used for people to harm other people. This
section was taken out because of disputes among states and their inability to resolve the
question of slavery beforehand. This document was written to show the harms of the
British crown that we didnt want repeated in our own government. It wasnt about
creating a new government or a new nation, but rather pointed out flaws in a failed project.
