The Chakra Positions
The 7 Chakras are the energy centers in our body in which energy flows through.
Blocked energy in our 7 Chakras can often lead to illness so it's important to
understand what each Chakra represents and what we can do to keep this energy
flowing freely. Here's our quick summary:
Root Chakra - Represents our foundation and feeling of being grounded.
Location: Base of spine in tailbone area.
Emotional issues: Survival issues such as financial independence, money,
and food.
Sacral Chakra - Our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences.
Location: Lower abdomen, about 2 inches below the navel and 2 inches in.
Emotional issues: Sense of abundance, well-being, pleasure, sexuality.
Solar Plexus Chakra - Our ability to be confident and in-control of our lives.
Location: Upper abdomen in the stomach area.
Emotional issues: Self-worth, self-confidence, self-esteem.
Heart Chakra - Our ability to love.
Location: Center of chest just above heart.
Emotional issues: Love, joy, inner peace.
Throat Chakra - Our ability to communicate.
Location: Throat.
Emotional issues: Communication, self-expression of feelings, the truth.
Third Eye Chakra - Our ability to focus on and see the big picture.
Location: Forehead between the eyes. (Also called the Brow Chakra)
Emotional issues: Intuition, imagination, wisdom, ability to think and make
decisions.
Crown Chakra - The highest Chakra represents our ability to be fully connected
spiritually.
Location: The very top of the head.
Emotional issues: Inner and outer beauty, our connection to spirituality,
pure bliss (MindBodyGreen, 2009).

The Reiki Hand Positions and Their Functions

The original Reiki system as conceived by Dr. Usui did not include a system of hand
positions as we now use them. He simply healed by relying on his intuition, letting
his hands do the thinking. It is said that he used only one hand to heal while he held
a ball of "energy" in the other (a practice widely followed in some Chinese Qigong
healing styles). The current system was developed later. After many years of
experimenting, it was found that Reiki energy flows more easily when the hands are
held on or over the body in a certain sequence of hand positions. The following
positions are the most commonly used (Petter, 1998).
The Basic Head Positions
1) Head #1 relaxes and dissolves stress and fear. Good for sinus problems, eye,
nose, tooth and jaw ailments. Balances pineal and pituitary glands, which
correspond to the 6th and 7th chakras.
2) Head #2 improves memory and synchronizes the left and right brain. Good for
headaches and earaches, assists the dying.
3) Head #3 relaxes, dissolves stress and calms the mind. Good for problems
concerning the cerebellum and spinal marrow, as well as headaches.
4) Head #4 builds self-confidence, and gives more joy and self - respect. Magnifies
creativity. Good for throat, tonsil, and thyroid problems. Corresponds to the 5th
chakra.
The Basic Front Positions
5) Front #1 enhances love, trust and harmony. Affects the thymus gland, which
corresponds to the heart chakra. Good for the lungs and cardiovascular system.
6) Front #2 helps dispel fear and stress. Affects the solar plexus or 3rd chakra. Good
for liver, stomach, gallbladder, spleen and digestive tract.
7) Front #3 is similar to #2. This position dispels fear and stress. Affects the 2nd and
3rd chakras. Good for liver, stomach, gallbladder, spleen and digestive tract.
8) Front #4 dispels sexual fears and tensions. Affects the 1st and 2nd chakras and is
good for the ovaries and uterus in women, prostate in men, and the bladder and
digestive tract in both.
The Basic Back Positions
The back positions are basically the same as the front positions.
9) Back #1 helps against stress, and promotes relaxation. Good for spine and neck
problems.
10) Back #2 is the same as front #2.
11) Back #3 is the same as front #3. Good for the kidneys.
12) Back #4 is the same as front #4. Good for tailbone injuries.

The Extra Positions

1) One hand on the forehead, and the other on the back of the head. This position is
also called the cosmic plug, because it helps `recharge' our own or the recipient's
energies.
2) One hand on the heart chakra and one hand on the hara. This position has been
known to help with insomnia. It gives us a gentle feeling before beginning our
night's sleep.
3) Both hands on the heart chakra. This position also helps us fall asleep.
4) One hand on the heart chakra and the other on the solar plexus. Has a similar
effect as #1.
