Engineering piston

Piston is a solid cylinder that fits in the engine to withstand the high pressure inside the
engine for a long period of time. The rapid movement of the piston which affect the design
and material used to manufacture the piston.
The modern application of piston in engine include hydraulic engines, aimed for off highway
vehicle and a free piston engine generators, aimed for use with hybrid electric vehicle. The
application is to compress the gas and transfer the force to the wheel shaft. The high pressure
created can be withstand by a single piston. Piston also act as a valve by covering and
uncovering ports in the cylinder water.
