It is my pleasure to write this letter in recommendation and support of Monica Sewell. My name is
Anna Liebsch, and I am a math teacher at Flower Mound High School. Students at this high school
are extremely competitive in both the academic and extra-curricular realms; in fact, FMHS is known
for its consistent high number of National Merit Finalists that graduate each year. The high level of
achievement and competition at FMHS makes Monicas accomplishments even more significant.
Monica Sewell has the respect of her teachers, coaches, and peers. She is a young lady with
outstanding character, high academic standards, and a current goal of a career in health care or
medicine. I have had the privilege of working with Monica for the last two years. During her junior
year she was in my algebra II class, and currently she is a senior in my pre-calculus class. In
addition to her pleasant, friendly, respectful attitude, I find Monica to be a consistent student with a
good work ethic. During the time that she was in my algebra II class, Monica was able to balance
her desire to excel academically while maintaining her outside commitments to FMHS golf.
Monica is a student who really stands out because of her desire to learn, and her positive attitude,
even in the face of a very challenging curriculum. When Monica began my class last year she was, at
first, apprehensive because of her desire to really understand and excel. She had heard that algebra II
could be difficult and had demanding daily homework requirements. Yet Monica displayed welldeveloped study skills and maintained a positive attitude, even as the course became progressively
more difficult. She did very well in the first half of the class, earning a solid B grade average. But
what I found remarkable was how she embraced the second, significantly more difficult semester.
She challenged herself, asked questions, thought more deeply and ended with an A. As a teacher, I
immensely enjoyed observing Monica rise to the occasion and find personal satisfaction with the
positive results of her hard work. In fact, she was so encouraged by her success that she decided to
enroll in pre-calculus during her senior year.
I was thrilled when I saw that Monica was one of my students again this year in pre-calculus. Her
enthusiasm has been encouraging to me and to her classmates as well. The class has been moving at
a fast, challenging pace, but Monica shows up to class every day with a smile, ready to work. She
helps others when we work in groups, and communicates well when she has questions.
I am grateful for the opportunity to know and work with Monica Sewell. She has the maturity,
academic ability, desire and discipline to be successful in challenging areas of study at the university
level. I fully expect her to make a powerful impact and contribution on her college campus.
Sincerely,
Anna Liebsch
