1940 AD Vacuum Tubes

Vacuum tubes created
Used for communication
Amplifies current, which makes the sound
louder
Used in the first computers

1946 AD - ENIAC
US military research for a calculating
device
Used to make weapons with high accuracy
Was very large and heavy, with 18000
vacuum tubes

1947 AD - Transistors
Replaced vacuum tubes
Much smaller and faster

1949 AD Integrated Circuits

Bunch of electronic components in one
unit
Beginning of 3rd generation computers
Made computers much more faster
Replaced punch cards with modern day
peripherals
