Houston, TX – January 14, 2010 – A newly formed, local coalition is set to make a
worldwide impact beginning this weekend when Sapphire Jule King sets out on a two-
year journey around the United States. During the journey, King will collect audio,
visual, and written stories from hundreds of families that symbolize and embody the
value of strong families.
Believing the saying that a family that prays together stays together, King founded the
International Freedom Coalition (IFC) in an effort to eradicate child maltreatment
worldwide. IFC is a nonprofit, 501c3 organization formed in 2009 after several local
social entrepreneurs expressed a need for a collaborative effort in tackling social issues.
One major component of the walk is that supporters are asked to send a pair of their
lightly used or new shoes for King to use in towns and cities she will pass through --
“Walk a Week in Your Shoes.” The journey will kick off at 6:30a.m., Friday, Jan. 15 at
La Porte’s Sylvan Beach Park Pavilion. Supporters, volunteers, and the general public
are encouraged to attend.
