Paraphrase of Sir Philip Sidneys Poem 1
In my truthful love, I desire to show my affections to her through verse. I hope that my
crush will show pleasure from my drudgeries and persuade her to read my work. Reading my
poem might let her realize my love for her. Because of her knowledge of my affections toward
her, she might feel sympathy for me and return the feelings I have for her. I tried to find the
correct words to use to express my lovesickness, the darkest part of my depression. To hopefully
amuse and entertain her brain, I studied other writers fine works and writings by turning through
pages of works to see if inspiration would flow like fresh and fruitful showers to my tired and
worn out brain. However, the words did not come to me, even though I needed the support and
inspiration from the others. Even from my demanding studies, the inspiration escaped me and
remained hidden. I was not able to follow the path of the other writers, as they seemed foreign to
me. My desire to speak is like my child that I am bearing, but my attempts to raise it is fruitless. I
gnaw on my wandering pen and beat myself, reprimanding myself for my failure. You fool!
My Muse exclaimed, Look into your heart and write.
