Lab Report DATCOLA

Lab Experiment #1
Data and Results:

Analysis:
The experiment was about configuring the IP address of a network using
different computers. The data are connected through the DATCOMU network. The
network that was used is a Class C network which means that its configuration is
NNNH (Network Network Network Host). In order for the computers to detect others,
the network they are using must be the same. The network is checked using
command prompt.
In the command prompt, there is a command called ipconfig. The ipconfig
command is used to determine the connection of the computer towards the host.
The ipconfig shows the IPv4 address, IPv6 address, subnet mask, default gateway,
etc. The ipconfig also shows if the computer is connected or disconnected to the
media.
There is also a command called ping for the command prompt. The ping
command is used to check how fast the signals are being transferred from the host
to the user. The ping is set in milliseconds. The ping is also used to determine if the
user is connected to another user or if the host is connected to the user and vice
versa. The ping command also displays if the user is received or lost, in the
experiment when the our group pinged the other group, some of the group was not
connected and thus our group received a 100% loss of data, on the other hand the
group that was connected to us gave a 0% data loss. Since we were able to ping
most of the group and the host, the groups that we could not ping may not be
connected to the host when we pinged them.
The IPv4 address used for our group was 192.168.1.245, the subnet mask is
255.255.255.128, and lastly the default gateway is 192.168.1.1. In order for the
computers to connect to each other, the network must be of the same class, and
the subnet must be 255.255.255.0. When the subnet is not 255.255.255.0, the
computers cant connect to each other since it cannot be used a working IP address.
The computer that our group used was able to connect with the other group
that uses the same network class and subnet. Since the experiment used a class C
network, we were able to connect to most of the groups that were able to execute
their IP address as a class C network.
