E-Sermon
DAVIDS 5 STONES!
In 1 Samuel chapter 17 we read about the
defeat of Goliath by a young man called David,
the shepherd boy.
The big question is why did David take five
stones?
Many sermons have been preached on this and
with as many revelations, but nothing I have
personally felt was correct. After many times of
personal study and prayer regarding this, I have
found that the answer is actually in the Bible. I
am open to correction, so please feel free to
write me.
What was the significance of the five stones?
I believe that the five stones speak of his
character. Let me explain.
David approached Saul and said that he would
fight the giant. Saul challenges him as to the fact
that he is young with no fighting experience.
David tells Saul that when the lion and the bear
took his cattle, he would go after them and kill
them.
When a lion takes one of your lambs, you can be
sure that the lamb would be dead. Regardless of
that, David still pursued the lion and killed it.
This speaks about how he would not let the
enemy get away. Others might have left the lion
and just tried to safeguard what was left, but
David said to himself that that lion is not
getting away with it. If I leave the lion he will
come back again, which means that I will
continually live in fear. So he did the same with
the bear!

When you take your family on an outing

with the intention of having a barbecue,
you would probably pack a grill, wood,
coals, and one match to light the fire.
Of cause you would not take one match,
but rather a box of matches. Because, if
you do not light the fire with the first
match, you will attempt it with a second,
or third or fourth etc
David took five stones because it was a
part of his character! If he missed with
the first stone, there was going to be a
second or third or fourth or fifth stone.
He was indicating that he was not going
to run away like the soldiers did or if he
missed with the first stone, but rather
showing us that come what may, the
giant is going down.
Proverbs 24:16 For a just man falleth
seven times, and riseth up again:
You may ridicule and mock a believer
who fails in life. You can criticize him for
wanting to continue to serve the Lord
But, he does it because he understands
how to be right with God. He knows the
importance of getting up and continuing
with the call of God on his/her life.
STOP being a quitter! It is NOT time to
give up but to get up!
